Powered Tailgate - Disable?

I've touched on this before but does anyone know of a way to disable (temporarily) the powered tailgate?

I use a Thule Bike Rack (929) regularly which sits on the towbar but close to the rear tailgate. I'm nervous I'm going to release the tailgate by accident (pressing keyfob my mistake etc) thus smacking it straight into the bike rack. 2017 MY - Dynamic, same again!

2016 MY - Dynamic - same spec again all round, engine a noticeable improvement

2015 HSE Dynamic - same spec as the last plus Meridian, Full Size Spare & InControl Apps

HSE Dynamic 2014:
Ebony / Lunar, Heated Mirrors, Privacy Glass, Heated Steering Wheel, Red Callipers, Interior Mood Lighting, Ebony Headlining, Panoramic Roof, Electric Towbar, Centre Console Fridge.

Previously: 2011 RRS, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Audi S5 Cab, RRS, Audi S4 Cab.

I don't know of a way in the new (or the old ) model, but I agree, for the time when you have a bike rack fitted, it would be a great feature, perhaps an automatic disable when you connect the electric plug Idea ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Not ideal I appreciate, an interlock would be ideal as BC says - but open it, note your contact point and cable tie foam pipe insulation around your carrier frame (or contact point), that way at least if it happens you won't cause any damage (the boot goes into pause mode when encountering resistance).

Thumbs Up

just temporarily re-program your key fob to operate another option, like 'walk me home' lights, then any accidental button pressing turns lights on instead of opening tailgate. I got fed up of pressing the button by mistake, then having to walk back to the car to lock the tailgate !  RR Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange 4.2 V8 First edition

Prefer RR Vouge S/C but they don't do Orange !

Powered Tailgate - Disable

Sorry to resuscitate and old thread but at least as a new forum member I am reading the posts Mr. Green

Anybody found a solution? I need to reverse park at night into tight space with tall metal railings about 30cm from the rear bumper. I am very nervous I hit the tailgate button. I know you can alter the tailgate height but even at its lowest; its still too high and juts out about 0.5m past the rear bumper. Covering the rails in something soft isn't really a aesthetic option.

...and I also have a cycle rack for occasional use, so another opportunity to cause damage to the tailgate.

I like the idea of re-programming the key fob tailgate button, but is this a possibility on the RRS2?

cheers Ricky

Could add a remote controlled fuse to replace the one powering the gate.
