Not very convincing in terms of quality and safety of the vehicle.

Probably the doors had either deformed and couldn't be opened (being a minor accident, it would mean it is not a safe vehicle at all) or there was electric problem and the doors could not be opened, also not good.

All in all, quite bad for RR.
Hope a representative from RR would inspect the vehicle to see what went wrong.

in the UK if the occupant has a suspected back injury, they take the roof off to get the back boards in to protect them from any further damage

the drivers side doors are open in the second roof off picture and that the side that took the hit, the roof on picture shows the door open too on the passenger side

Just thought they were not able to open the doors in time and they needed to get the passenger(s) out quickly (maybe suspected risk of fire..).

Did not know about that procedure i.e. opening the roof if they think the back might be hurt.

Anyway strange that they might think the back would be hurt in such a small collision, but again it might be the proper procedure the fireman followed.

I expect the road was closed for six hours.

If the occupant is complaining of serious neck or back pain then it's not worth the risk of paralysing them so they cut the roof off.

Sadly, other examples of "health and safety" are actually just part of the liability culture we now have in the UK.

A few years ago our neighbour had a chimney fire. Fire service on scene quickly and start to get to work. They were a retained crew (as is the case in many rural areas) and a full time officer arrived to supervise. He quickly gave the crew a for setting up a ladder to take a hose up to the top of the chimney. Risk assessment carried out and a mobile platform called for. Over half an hour later the platform arrived and they went up to pour water down the chimney. Why all the messing about? They can't use the ladder in that situation apparently. Now, that's driven by liability - both on the part of the employer but also on the part of the employer's insurers. The insurers say "we won't pay out" so the employer says "you don't do X if it's risky".

All of the stuff we hear about "health and safety" is nothing of the sort - it's "where there's blame there's a claim". Blame the lawyers, the insurance industry and the selfish bastards who make spurious claims. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

That is crazy... would love to know how they justified the cutting... looking at the damage there is no way the patient was trapped and if it was for suspected spinal then they must cut a lot of cars up... Much safer and quicker ways to get patients out of a car even with spinal injuries than cutting the roof off.

RRS not tested by EuroNCAP yet, but the FFRR whiplash test is marginal.
Shame they don't safety so "religiously" like Mercedes or Volvo.
This might explain her neck/back injury....

it might have one of those explosive breakers in, if the car is in a accident the charge goes off to disable the electrics aswell to prevent sparks

as said somewhere else today, if the designers, designed a system were the electric seats could be bypassed, with maybe a external power source carried by the fire Service , or a simple case of pulling a lever to allow the electric motor to disengage to allow the seat to freely slide the lady might have been able to keep the roof in place
