Cheap fix for GPS Aerial.

I have had a few gps antennas failed lately in the shark fin aerial and was looking around for a cheaper alternative even the breaker yards want 50.00 for a second hand one, so this is my fix for 6.49p.

Flack - that's an exemplary post. Top work Bow down

There's been a couple of posts looking for help with lost GPS reception recently.

Could a moderator add this to the list of 'HOW TOs' on the technical section perhaps?

Cheers,

Hi Flack I have problem with my satnav. you cannot program route on postcode as only numbers appear on screen. top corner of screen shows GPS with red cross through it, so I take it no GPS, but when driving pointer shows you moving so I thought this would be controlled by GPS??
Any ideas??

Thanks

Yes its your Gps aerial that has failed, the pointer will still move but not track on the map or follow a road because it does not know where it is.
Just do the fix as above and you will be fine.

How good was your post flack Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Done it today, Idrilled 13.5 mm hole and kept cable long so no need to cut and join cable. The hardest bit was getting the plate above the head lining back on with the 2 10m mm nuts other than that all went good.
On sat nav screen I cant do postcodes it just shows numbers no letters. Sad any ideas??

Belgium 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Maya Gold

Hi Guys,

I think my gps aerial is gone, keeps taking me off track and not able to resync on it's own. I can using the 753 menu reset my location and it does relocate me to where I am. But could be the direction calibration as after I set off somewhere eventually it misplaces me. Any ideas?

But before I start dismantling things, can someone explain flack's guide....what happens once we have the new mast aerial, where do we run the new aerial wire to? Does it go down to the dvd unit itself? I took a photo so if anybody cares to point it out.

Thanks

Tech

If you get the part all the work is done above rear luggage area in the roof space. Remove aerial solder in new part and replace. do it in the dry as water would come through holes in roof. It is a bit awkward locating nuts but I am 22 stone and not so agile but done it ok.

So we just get a new aerial, cut the wire from it and solder the old wire onto the new aerial circuit board? So removing any casing from the new aerial we just want a new board basically?

Thanks for the reply Panda Smile

I fitted printed circuit board into where old one was removed, drilled a hole large enough for connector to go through so didn't cut wire. Secured in with hot glue gun. I think (a while since I done repair).
