My sport has been built 5 weeks ago, but I still don't have delivery, nor any idea of delivery due to no roofs, and some heater switches which they have also apparently ran out off.

So so annoyed at JLR

I would be surprised if LR have started to build the car in the knowledge that some components are out of stock. The cost to store a half built car and then reintroduce it into the production process would be prohibitive.

That would be my understanding but I have been assured by LR customer relations that mine has been built but I am waiting on the roof and some heater switches. MY10 HSE 3.0 TDV6 : Santorini Black : Ebony Interior w/Anigre wood : Privacy Glass (total) : Sunroof : Sidesteps : Hybrid TV : Detachable Tow Kit : Spare Wheel Cover : 22" Dished Supersports

In the early days of the Evoque, they had "completed" cars with bits missing all over the Halewood site and large tents erected to complete them once the bits were to hand - trim, xenon lights and so on. The cars were everywhere - in employee parking slots so that they had to park in the perimeter road, 2 wheels up on the pavement. It was a bit of a shambles.

I'd be worried if I had a car built without a pano roof as, normally, it's one of the first things to go in. Saw them putting them in at Mercedes with a robot reaching through the windscreen aperture. Tougher to do if there's a windscreen in the way. And then there's the whole thing of fitting the roof lining...

If a car is delayed by quite a few months such that the next model year comes on the horizon, does it make sense to hold back and wait for the new model year? Mark

hmm... so with all these delayed orders, and empty production slots (unless the scary story of half built vehicles lying around are true) if one jumped in with an order for a car without a pano roof right now, is there scope for getting a fairly early delivery?? Question Idea

Yes, I have been told by my salesman that if I changed my mind and decide not to have a panoramic roof, it would be possible to get the car by the end of the year. Not sure if that's actually possible though? Arrived: MY16 A/B SDV6 in Aruba, Ivory interior, piano black trim, black panoramic roof, spare wheel, blind spot monitoring, mudlaps and more... The problem with the roofs is clearly a major production SNAFU. Makes you wonder whether it's a capacity problem (more cars being ordered with one than expected) or a yield/quality problem. With the Evoque, there were the same delays with rumours of cracking glass. What's certain is we want LR to work through any quality issues. A new Evoque pano roof is £1800 and I expect the RRS much more and insurance may or may not cover that sinking feeling when you find a crack across a corner. Mark

With all the building at solihull and the already limited parking on site, there is no chance to store lots of half built cars! Mike

JLR are not alone and this happens with most car manufacturers at some point. Porsche have just announced a delivery delay with the new GT3 due to supply issues with a standard component. There are rumours that the delay has actually been caused by an issue with the rear wheel steering. Current:
2014 RRS HSE - Causeway Grey, Ebony with Ivory seats, Ebony roof lining, Black Piano wood, Panoramic Roof, Heated Exterior Mirrors, Heated Steering Wheel, Privacy Glass, 21" Wheels, Electric Tow Bar, Full Size Spare, Load through & Black Badges. 5 yr service pack
997 GT3
Golf R DSG
Past
2010 Discovery 4 HSE
2006 Discovery 3 HSE

I was at Porsche's plant in Stuttgart a couple of weeks ago and we were able to stand under the cars with rear-wheel steering and see the new components before the under-body cladding went on. They are certainly making cars with it - the GT3 and turbo/turbo S - but that is not to say they are being delivered to customers and may be being held back for rework.

When you think about the whole supply chain and the fact that car manufacturing - bodyshell aside - is often just an assembly operation of components produced just in time by other vendors, it's not surprising things go pear-shaped from time to time. It would be interesting to know what the roof issue is but of course manufacturers do not like to wash their dirty linen in public. Mark
