Hse vs hse dynamic

About to finally push the button on my order. Was going for an hse but am worried that all I have test driven are dynamics and it has been the handling that has impressed me. Vast majority of my driving will be road driving do I need the terrain response 2, torque vectoring etc? Did anyone test drive both and find major differences. Just cannot work out whether it is 5k well spent.

Thanks

I am tempted to place an order for a new RRS. I would choose the HSE because of the lower price and the silver grill and vents instead of black. I don't see the point in spending the extra 5k on something I would hardly ever use.

Up to you, but I would pesonally choose the HSE. Thumbs Up Arrived: MY16 A/B SDV6 in Aruba, Ivory interior, piano black trim, black panoramic roof, spare wheel, blind spot monitoring, mudlaps and more... Twisted Evil

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black

I went for an HSE because I prefer the silver grill (on a black car) and saved £5k in the process!

I did spec the £410 off road pack which gives you terrain response 2. My dealer reckons he has sold half HSE, half Dynamic and a few Autobiography's. The demonstrators will always be highly specced cars. 2017 MY - Dynamic, same again!

2016 MY - Dynamic - same spec again all round, engine a noticeable improvement

2015 HSE Dynamic - same spec as the last plus Meridian, Full Size Spare & InControl Apps

HSE Dynamic 2014:
Ebony / Lunar, Heated Mirrors, Privacy Glass, Heated Steering Wheel, Red Callipers, Interior Mood Lighting, Ebony Headlining, Panoramic Roof, Electric Towbar, Centre Console Fridge.

Previously: 2011 RRS, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Audi S5 Cab, RRS, Audi S4 Cab.

Torque vectoring is designed to improve on-road handling so if you're going to be driving "enthusiastically" then you will benefit from having it on the vehicle.

If you're never going to get it muddy and you'll only ever be driving it to get the best mpg then you'll be fine with the HSE. If you're going to drive the thing as it's intended (either on or off road) then the Dynamic is for you. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I would go with the dynamic. I drive in dynamic mode 80 % of the time, makes a big difference to the handling IMHO.

Also, it is 5k more for the dynamic list price but they will have better residuals so it will not cost you the full 5k in terms of cost of ownership, obviously depends on how long you keep it. The dynamic also gets the improved performance (higher top speed, not that that makes any difference outside Germany) and bigger and better brakes, not sure how much better they are as I have never driven the HSE. Also get the bigger diamond finish wheels and the paddle shift gear change, never mind the torque vectoring etc and off road capability.

The additional equipment you get moving to the Dynamic might not be important for everyone but to me it is a no brainier, you get the same suspension, brakes and dynamic/offroad capabillities of the Supercharged, just my views though, each to their own.

Godd luck with your choice, I am sure you will love it which ever model you go for. MY 2014 HSE Dynamic
MY 2012 RRS HSE
2009 Audi A6 Avant- superb quality but boring never missed
2007 Q7 -loved it but not a patch on RRS
Various BMW's, Audis
199 TD5 Disco XS, great car big improvement on previous Disco
1981 Fiat Mirafiori Sport 2000 TC - Bright Orange and Black, great Car when new but soon deteriorated, those were the days

I was originally intending to order the HSE Dynamic however, the Dealer Principal suggested I would be better opting for the HSE unless, I felt the suspension offered 5k's worth of extra driving experience and value. With this in mind, I borrowed a demonstrator for the day.

Having driven the car on a variety of roads with Dynamic mode on and off whilst pushing the car hard at times, I quickly came to the conclusion that standard suspension mode would be absolutely fine for 95% of the time and more than acceptable for the remaining 5%. The TV and dynamic mode is useful when driving the car at its upper limits but given the traffic and road conditions these days, it is very rare to have the opportunity for a decent, spirited but safe drive in a 2 + tonne SUV that would necessitate the need for dynamic suspension.

With regard to residuals, both my DP and the buyer for another LR dealer group suggested the HSE would retain its value = to the HSE Dynamic and therefore in real terms, I would lose less money. It was also mentioned that in general, SH RRS buyers will not pay a premium for mechanical upgrades such as Dynamic suspension and therefore, the price of the HSE Dynamic may drop a little more than the HSE as SH buyers will not be prepared to pay much more for a HSE-D over a HSE. This is debatable and we will only see the reality in approx 9-12 months time.

With regard to off road/bad weather ability, a lot is down to tyres and I will fit winter tyres. The terrain response is very good as standard and I will not be taking this car off roading and therefore, I don't need low range. If I did, I would add this as an option to the HSE. Current:

I don't think I would ever use low range or the dynamic mode, and I don't like the wheels or black grills either. It's a no brainer!
