Exporting to Australia

Hi,
My RRS has 275x40x20 tyres fitted as standard and the only tyre, having viewed all the posting on this subject, that best option that suits my purposes is the General Grabber AT. Unfortunately they are not exported to Australia hence I am in a bit of a bind.
I have noticed that a lot of contributors to this site fit 275x45x20 with seemingly no problems, but the dealers here have suggested that this may void my warranty. The other problem in going to this size is that it won't fit the spare wheel bay without modifications which I do not want to do.
My question is that does anyone know of a regular stockist that would ship them to a private individual in Australia unless there are any better ideas or advice which I welcome.
Many thanks,
Lew.

Hi Lew,

Contact site supporter AJS for a tyre quote and if you pm me your address in Adelaide I could quote you for the shipping.

Please bear in mind that you will also need to pay Australian VAT and Duty on import of the tyres.

Cheers

Hi
Wouldn't know about Importing Tyres into OZ, but I have a brand new 275x45x20 tyre fitted on a Diamond Cut Alloy Rim as a Spare and had absolutely no problem fitting it in the spare wheel well and did not have to modify anything.

Cheers
Col

Only if the value of the goods themselves (not including shipping) exceeds $1000AUD

Lew - I am not sure I would be looking to the UK for tyres - the US is the place - try TireRack http://www.tirerack.com/ they regularly sell to Australian customers but are upping their shipping costs with increasing demand.

You should have no problem fitting a 275/45R20 in the spare tyre well - it will fit a 285/50R20.

The Cooper Zeon LTZ's are readily available in those sizes in Oz.

Hi Oz,

Do those 285's fit the spare wheel bay and has the dealer given you any indication on what impact fitting them may or may not have on your warranty? Vehicle certainly looks the goods!

Out of interest I have imported a set of General Grabber AT's in 275/40/20 using MD couriers and AJS tyres, via this forum. Due here tomorrow (Friday) so waiting with baited breath.

Cheers,
Lew.

Cheers OZ,

That's perfect I have been looking at Cornells on Ebay, they seem to be the cheapest I've found, looking at 255/55/19s for mine.

Cheers Guys,

I know the 255/55/19 are more than mine for some reason.

Not sure about spare fitting and Im out of warranty, though they would have to prove that the tyre had effect on the part they are not warranting.

all other sizes in 20 that work have sidewalls that are far too small for offroad/sand work IMO . the 55/19 is ok , but I like my car to look the goods all the time so I was going to get 19s for offroading and 22's for daily, but it worked out about the same for me with rims and tyres as it would fitting the 19's , and I get more sidewall this way ( albeit speedo is off ...)

I have been told from several of my contacts ( who are normally as cheap as I can find ) that they cant even buy them for that much. Add to that the free shiping and its a no brainer Smile

For anyone that is interested I ordered a set of General Grabber AT's in 275/40/20 from AJS4x4 and with the excellent service provided by Big Dave from MD Couriers they arrived today. A little over a week from time of shipment to delivery, and a very seamless process. How these tyres will handle Aussie conditions is yet to be proven, but they certainly look the goods, albeit with that 40 series profile.

If anyone is interested in doing similar I can recommend MD Couriers and AJS4x4 very highly. By all means PM me if you would like to know more

Lew
