Diesel Hybrid unveiled, priced in line with V8SC

Eco stats good but premium very steep. Only 1 mile range electric.
Extra 120kgs is reasonable but that will take a while to recoup big premium vs a likely 3-4mpg improvement at best...

Hopefully that's for the FFRR. But still silly, even at low 80k for RRS.
Can't justify the premium...
No doubt they will sell some tho

A range rover with more electrics to go wrong, will they incorrectly wire the motor so it works against the engine Mr. Green
It also comes with stop stop technology, sorry stop start, but soon become just stop.
Don't get me wrong I love my RRS but am very realistic about its downfalls, even so my sc has never broken down but has had a few wobbles Thumbs Up

Great, another pointless hybrid. More eco-marketing crap to keep the politicans and luvvies happy.

The fuel economy benefits of hybrids are overstated thanks to the joke way the certification is carried out. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I agree most of the claims and technologies fitted to things like Toyotas are not as good as they claim (look at the footprint and damage done mining and shipping batteries) and im not an eco person...but increased MPG and decreased emissions have to be a good thing if nothing else to shut up those stupid environmental groups Mike

The real issue is whether the hybrids are actually as good as is claimed. For a start, the official figures are taken with the battery at full charge which is an unlikely scenario. Then one must question whether the added mass of batteries, motors, cooling and control systems are offset by the system's performance. Hauling 200kg+ of extra mass around the place seems a bit perverse to me.

I'd rather see something using capacitors that store energy from braking to accelerate the vehicle shortly afterwards. That would be a lot lighter and more realistic usage than having batteries to give a few miles of electric-only drive which, I'd bet, won't be used that way.

Hybrids are just a way for manufacturers to meet EU fleet emissions requirements. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I agree, something that recharged a system and some other fuel source technologies would also be good - equally performance engines, delivering the same power for significant mpg and emissions savings without all the battery stuff.

There is equally a market for better battery technology to store and deliver more power for longer with quicker charge times. Mike
