I note that a lot of members are running 275 / 45 / 20 tyres as opposed to 275 / 40 20 on their RRS's seemingly without any problems or issues.

Has anyone attempted to fit a rim fitted with the larger profile tyre into the spare wheel cavity? My measurements suggest that a 275 / 45 / 20 will not fit. The radius differentiation is 9mm which suggests to me that the wheel / tyre will hit the middle of the protective shield at its' centre point. Unfortunately I do not have a tyre / rim combination to check my theory.

The largest tyre I have fitted in the spare wheel-well is 285/60R18. It only fits deflated and rubs hard against the fibreglass heatshield (which has since been removed). A 275/45R20 should be around 1.5" less in diameter, so should fit.
