Not another tow bar question...

Right guys apologies, I have done a search and there is lots of info, however...im still slightly confused.

If I purchase a 2006 RRS S/C without the towbar and electrics, am I right in thinking that all I need to do is to fit the electrics (Genuine 2 x 7 pin) and everything will work, no re-programming is needed?

I did (just for a laugh) spoke LR this morning and asked for a quote, they wanted £840 for fitting it, including the tow ball....however the tow ball does cost over £430.

Is the 55 plate car much different from the 06/56 model in regards to fitting the electrics??

Thanks guys

You can buy a Thule (OEM quality) tow bar for half that LR price... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Electrics are a DIY fit in under an hour - kit used to be around £80 OEM - £40 ish on ebay if lucky.

I have a towbar for sale - looking for £150

I have fitted electrics to a 55 plate a 58 plate and current 61 no prob at all (the 61 plate had the main loom in place IIRC).

Software mod is to turn fogs off the rear when towing to eliminate glare in the rear view if you were towing a tin tent.

Thumbs Up

Thanks MAW, that has cleared it up. Will keep that in mind regarding the tow ball.

Just a little update to this thread, I picked up the tow hook and tow electrics of ebay and fitted them myself, took me about an hour. Instructions was ok, think it showed a Disco or something else as the variant model as took a little deciphering, however did not take long to work out.
