United Arab Emirates 2008 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Alaska White
My first warning message

Just as I pulled into work today I noticed this message on the dash " Transmission Fault Friction Reduce".

The car is nearly approaching the end of it's warranty in July and it's the first warning I've ever had on the car since I don't drive it hard and have only covered 90,000KM in five years.

What would this message mean? I've done a quick search but can't find those exact words.

Thx. Ra-Ro Sport Super Dooper Charged.

Not heard of that fault before, however below is a link with regards a similar fault message:

http://landroverforums.com/forum/lr2-35/tr...ced-17257/

Also, it maybe that the battery is not charging fully, therefore not delivering the full voltage/ current required which may throw up random error messages.

Thats what the service center said when I called them Guy. The car's going in on Sunday for a plug & play check up.

Hopefully It's a false alarm. Ra-Ro Sport Super Dooper Charged.

It appears to be a sensor fault for the electronic differential. The workshop called to say that this was the only problem they could find so they've replaced it and will take the car for a test drive tomorrow.

Interesting that it didn't show a fault code on the diagnostics when the car was plugged in though....I thought all error codes were retained untill they are deleted? Ra-Ro Sport Super Dooper Charged.

The 5 year warranty runs out tomorrow...and lo and behold the same message came back again today. I called the workshop who told me to book the car in today so they can open a job card and do another investigation.

Strange how they could find anything before either. I really hope it's something trivial. Ra-Ro Sport Super Dooper Charged.

The Main Dealer can't find anything wrong so they are going to change the battery under warranty as a precaution.
I'm off on my hollies for two weeks so I told them to put some miles on the car just to see if the message pops up again.
Hopefully it's just the battery and I'll not have to worry about taking the body off in a few months! Ra-Ro Sport Super Dooper Charged.

Malaysia 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Chawton White

Could the message have been 'TRANSMISSION FAULT – TRACTION REDUCED' ?

Probably

1. Center differential has failed - operating as an open differential, OR
2. Transfer case control module has stopped transmitting on the CAN bus and defaults to open
center differential

Tell the garage to check for lost communication and bus off DTCs. Malaysia Boleh!

Thx Bobby. I have cut & pasted your feedback and gave it to the service manager at my local dealer.
The message has come up twice now...the first time of reading it I could have been excused for not reading it correctly...but the second time I made careful note to read exactly what it said...."Friction Reduce".

The dealer is adement that fitting a new battery has cured the issue and have extended the dealer warranty by another two months just in case.

Fingers crossed... Ra-Ro Sport Super Dooper Charged.
