I put the low insurance costs down to them being classed as estate cars (in my case a diesel estate). And I was quite happy to pay £500 to insure a £40k car Thumbs Up

After a week chasing Aviva I have finally got them to see sense - tracker not required as vehicle identical and £50 refund for the inconvenience of ringing/writing/ranting for the last week Rolling Eyes

Insurance now works out £340 after £60 cashback and £50 refund - it pays to stick to your guns Cool

I think many ask for a tracker when you list the value as being over £50k, had the same problem and tried a lower value and it made all the difference. Managed to get cover with Lloyds in the end with the correct value and no tracker required. 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

I get that but I had to tell insurance I had swapped after 3 weeks for identical model/value due to issues and they then asked for tracker Shocked Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I asked my insurance (admiral) if I instal a tracker how much cheaper will the insurance be ?

There replied it will go up if I install one!!!!

How they work that one out i don't know.

I have installed one anyway as for my own piece of mind. 2007 RANGE ROVER SPORT 2.7 TDV6 HSE in silver

^^^ They probably work that one out the same way they calculate third party insurance to be significantly more expensive than fully comp Rolling Eyes I realised that 3 years ago when my insurance premium doubled for absolutely no reason or change of circumstances. The car in question was old and level of cover didn't bother me much. Tried third party to save a few quid only to find insurers wanted even more money Shocked

Anyone knows the reason for that?

I think they take the view that third party insurers don't care about their car so will be higher risk Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

May be that is their reasoning but if it really is, quite illogical IMHO. True, I won't care much about a £3-£4k car apart from mechanical maintenance and road-worthiness but still care about my family and others' lives which are way more precious than ANY car. That would be enough reason to be careful, also reflected in my accident/claim-free driving history.

Thanks for all the advice lads. I am we'll pleased with the result. Switched to admiral, got protected no claims, business use not that I really need it, covered in the event that I'm involved in a smash with an uninsured driver for £301 with annual payment discount! Bloody cracking deal. 2014 RRS HSE, SVR body kit fitted.

Did you tell them that it's been mapped too...? Whistle

Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
