CD Player not showing cd's are loaded and not playing

Strange problem with the stereo in my RRS.
I have 6 cd's loaded and all has been working fine. A few days ago the stereo reset seemed to reset itself and the clock needed re setting. At this time the display showed no cd's in thje display.
There are 6 cd's loaded and whenever I press the cd button to play it shows "checking" but thats all.
I have tried eject but no joy.
any ideas
