Tyres and Steering wobble

Has anyone any experience with cheap to mid range tyres on the RRSport? Have Hankooks on mine.

The reason I ask is because I have steering shimmy at certain speeds. Have had a hunter alignment and a few wheel balancings but to no effect.

The service rep says he's positive the steering shimmy is due to not having decent tyres on the vehicle and not the steering rack. I suppose the high temperatures in the UAE wont help; making the tyres more pliable and prone to radial force variation.

Thanks.

Hi FSJ,

I'm running Toyo 285/35R22s on mine and have had them filled with nitrogen. No issues with balance, flat spotting or vibrations. They were actively balanced at Aston Martin. Max 60g weights applied on the rims.

Not sure that helps you but the Toyo tyres where v cheap compared to pirelli, Michelin and co. ..

Just this week I have changed my Hankooks to.........Hankooks.

I got 35k miles out of the last set and would highly recommend them, as would many owners here. Just do a search, they are a well respected mid price brand.

I doubt very much your problems stem from the tyres unless they have worn unevenly as this produces a steering 'shimmy' much like a wheel being out of balance. Can't comment on the high ambient temperature.

Im sure someone a bit more techy will be along to help soon.

Hope you get it sorted. Thumbs Up FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

Thanks for the comments guys.

Looks like I'm going to have to fork out £1000 on new tyres I don't need just to get the steering rack changed then.

At least it'll get fixed one way or another. Driving me mad.

How much would a new steering rack cost? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
