PTI - questions

I don't have PTI on my HSE but have wondered (as the hardware appears to be there) what PTI is, is it enabling, is it software, is there hidden hardware that gets added, anyone know?

Cheers...

Well the cradle for you to clip in your Nokia phone would be located under the lid of the central box.

Then you can access some of your phone’s functionality, via the controls & display on your stereo, along with some additional buttons on the steering wheel. You can then speak hands free with the audio being routed through the driver’s door speaker.

Additionally you’ll have an external antenna connection to improve reception.

You’re also supposed to get voice recognition dialling, but to be honest I’ve never got this to work properly.

If you don’t have a phone model that suits the cradle, you can also connect to the PTI system via Bluetooth, although in general this method seems to really only offer hands free conversation.

I have my Nokia 8800 connected via Bluetooth and I get all that functionality, including voice dialing. 2014 Mercedes-Benz S500

So - anyone had it fitted post delivery and established what they bought for £350 notes? It just seems the hardware is in place and I'm wondering is it something that can be enabled w/o dealers involvement saving the beer tokens?

According to dealers, the only retro-fit bluetooth you can have is aftermarket systems, not the LR integrated system Rolling Eyes Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Hmm Thanks Supertrotter but the accessories brochure lists lists an installation kit and voice control kit P/N's VUB 501151 and XVJ 500121 and for £223.25 and £178.01 respectively. The switches, voice interface etc etc appear present just not enabled to 'see' a phone. When I attempt phone use it comes back with (something like) 'Not Installed' any ideas anyone.

I think this is a LR kit, but not the truly integrated factory version.

It will not be an invisible installation as is PTI Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

When I had my D3, I too had the buttons with letters & numbers on the stereo. So I made enquiries about the LR kit as featured in the accessories brochure. Thinking it would integrate with the setero keypad etc.

However the word that came back was that no you wouldn’t be able to use the stereo keypad to dial a number, like you can in real life PTI.

Just as ST said I was advised that the best course of action was to get an aftermarket kit fitted. It would also be infinitely cheaper than the LR accessory kit too !!

I know that Nokia do some rather “froody” Bluetooth kits, as I’m sure other manufacturers do.

I would not be surprised if all the higher spec cars have it built in, they 'sell' the kit even though it's a software issue that they upload to enable the bluetooth.

Think how BT is enabled on your phone or PC, you Enable it, and hey presto....

I ended up buying a cradle when I bought the SC as it made sense for charging the phone on the move etc. Just a shame the phone's software is corrupt and the system can't read the damned phonebook! L319 D4 HSE
