Battery Drainage Unfixable at Land Rover

Hi Guys

Need your help with what you think the outcome will be on my RRS.

I purchased a 2005 RRS from Land Rover last year and the car came with a 6 months warranty.

Since I had purchased the vehicle I have had nothing but problems with battery drainage and faults.

The car has undertaken modifications and a colour change to the Autobiography style since purchase.

All the issues have been raised the Land Rover and they have had the vehicle in about 8 times now in a space of 4 months and they cannot find the fault even though they are aware that there is a fault there.

The dealer principal has advised that they have tried everything they can but the fault appears to remain and they cant figure it out.

They are now going to speak with the Dealer Principals to see what outcome is going to suit all parties.

Does anyone have any idea of what the outcome could be?

Confused

Possible swap like for like?... but don't count on something with an A/B kit on it.

I'd make noises you want the kit transfered and colour matched. RRS gone

I have seen instrument packs cause battery drains. Normally cured by a software update Thumbs Up

This may not be the same issue as yours, but worth a check.
Also, seen loose battery terminals cause drain issues, but I would imagine they have already been checked

Hi

They have replaced the battery all terminals are fine, they have done a software update and a hard reset.

What appears to happen from time to time is that the sat nav screen and the radio freezes which causes the battery to drain when the car is locked.

Either the Radio LCD/Sat NAV Screen remain on which causes the battery to drain.

The dealer had told me they found the problem a month back advising that the complete radio was locking itself out and causing it to freeze so they replaced the whole stereo unit and said its working fine now.

3 dqays later same again started the car in the morning and the sat nav screen and radio froze no sound or anything then when parked and locked they wouldn't turn off!

Really bizarre that they cant find the fault but I've spent like £10k doing the coversion and colour change so really dont know what the outcome will be, the car is still under warranty so dont know the position I'm in due to this fault not being able to be repaired.

They've advised it would be my local dealer only who will be dealing with this as the vehicle has been into them many times already.

I dont know whether there was a re call on the l322's at any stage but they simply haven't got a clue.

I'm not so sure they can dictate which dealer you take the RRS to. The point being your local one has failed to sort the car out so you must be entitled to take it elsewhere or hand it back after you've agreed what to do about the kit etc.

Mrs Bradders would have the Dealer Principal in tears by now.....I just leave her to it. is there a Mrs Harry HST who can kick off Thumbs Up FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

I agree, this dealer had had many attempts to fix the car. I have had this issue in the past with a dealer.
I insisted I wanted a second opinion and have another dealer took at look at it.
I also informed them to go on this forum as they might get an idea of how to fix a car they built Very Happy

In the end the second dealer found the fault within two days, they even gave me a courtesy car free of charge.

Good luck with this and keep us informed Thumbs Up

Rolling with laughter

Mrs HST will not get involved in my politics with dealers!! ( She's a BMW Lover Shocked )

Here is the reply I have had from Land Rover:

Morning **** / ******,

Just had a discussion with Mr ***** ref his ongoing issue with his battery drain on his RRS.

Obviously Mr ***** is frustrated with the fact the same problem keeps re-occurring, and the fault doesn’t seem to be rectified, and of course it’s the same for us with regard to the frustration of not being able to rectify or find the source of the drain.

I have asked Mr ***** what his thoughts are in relation to coming out of the RRS, if his confidence has depleted in this particular vehicle, but as he has explained, he has spent £****** upgrading the vehicle to his desired specification since the purchase.

Is it possible we could raise this fault with Land Rover and explain the situation?, maybe you already have?, I am just trying to find the fastest outcome possible for Mr ***** to conclude the matter?

Regards,

****

Unbelievable that a main dealer can't find an electrical fault and just wants to give up! Really?.
Surely you'd expect that any self-respecting organisation as a matter of principle would be determined to track down the source. Perhaps they might have to send it to a vehicle electrical specialist as part of their obligations to you the owner; have they offered to do that?
I wonder if they have checked the infamous corroding switch on the tailgate glass? Rolling with laughter 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

I've not tried or messed with anything in all fairness.

As it's udner warranty i've left it to the dealers to sort so to be honest I dnt know whether they have checked the upper tailgate switch i'm assuming they would of if its a common problem.

i wouldnt trust the dealers to know this as when i had my battery drain it took me 3 weeks of testing to find it i phoned loads of dealers and they all said they have never had a battery drain i think i was 1 of the first on this forum to have this problem and since i posted many have had this same problem for the sake of £30 i would change the switch Thumbs Up

Sounds like a plan but as mentioned the drain is coming from the Sat Nav/Radio it freezes and doesnt turn off which is causing the drain.

I doubt its the tailgate switch which is having intermitance with the stereo, it appears an electrical fault along the lines somewhere.
