2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey
Highway mode for suspension

I know it isn't excatly law abiding and maybe fighter bomber owners will have more experience of it than the TDv6 brigade Laughing Laughing but how many know that there is a 4th suspension setting other than Normal, Access and Offroad?
Must admit I didn't until I read this post over on Range Rover Net............ and it explains Speedinovation's post about the ECU for suspension settings.
http://www.rangerovers.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8685

The FFRR used to lower at about 62mph to "improve" the stabilty at speed it was noticable only because the FFRR has a display panel, switch and LEDs that flash as the car raises or lowers except that you cannot select highway height using the switch, it goes there automatically.

One day I might even read the owners manual from end to end rather than diving into the index just for something in particular! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

You actually have five settings, as well as lowering at speed.
When of road and grounded you can raise the car again to its full limit, but the car must be grounded to perform the lift. Its out there somewhere. Second V10 Treg on the drive at the moment.

In standard form, it lowers at 100mph, which is a pointless speed to be altering the suspension. Surely, if it improves stability at 100mph, it must also improve it at say, 60mph ?
I know that JE have been working on a software "fix" to lower the suspension at a somewhat more practical speed. It will, I suspect, be massively cheaper than the insane price quoted by Speedinovation. It may well be an option with the chip upgrade.

Doesn't lower, compressed suspension = firmer ride?

I don't want any firmer ride quality please! Big Cry Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

The ride shouldn't get any firmer, the system will simply let air out until the required ride height is achieved. That's probably over simplifying it, but you get the idea.

But doesn't less air = less pneumatic shock absorbing?

Same principle as lower profile tyres = less air for bump absoption! Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

No Smile
Lower profile tyres are firmer because of the shallower sidewalls and not because of the amount of air inside them, assuming the same internal pressure.
The suspension isn't "compressed" to make it lower, which would imply a higher internal pressure thereby resulting in a firmer ride. Less air is pumped into the system, so the internal pressure remains constant.
I hope that clarifies it for you.

Ah! I see!

I am only here to monkey around. I tend to shy away from technical contributions for this reason.

I've archieved top speed recently on a highway (230 km/h - 140 mph) but still it was "Standart" on the display.. I drove at this speed for some time (about 3 or 5 mins) - no effect. On the big RR you can lock the suspension in highway mode after you archive 100 km/h (62mph).. and i could feel the difference - the car was a bit more sporty then in standart (18sm against 22sm in standart). 2014 Mercedes-Benz S500

I don't think you would get a visual or acoustic confirmation of "high speed height" displayed on the LCD upon reaching 100 mph, at those speeds I am sure Land Rover decided it was better not to distract the driver with bongs and messages appearing in the instrument clusters...

Also, we are only talking 20 mm... Probably hard to notice with the naked eye, considering you are zooming down a straight without points of reference. Hey, I have a great idea: get a friend to ride his car right next to yours until you reach 100 mph and check your wheel well to see if it shrinks! Idea Wink

In fact, it would be nice if he could take some pictures, so the feature can be documented on this web site. Twisted Evil

Well.. but is there is any way to lock this mode to use at lower speeds? 2014 Mercedes-Benz S500

No. A while back there was news of a tuner coming up with a module to enable lower height at lesser speeds, can't remember which one but I think it was either Kahn or Arden... Haven't heard anything since, until Speedinnovation posting a couple of days ago (see Maintenance & Mods.)
