United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Cairns Blue
Not so bullet proof TDV8

At 49000 miles and with full dealer service history, the engine is seized/locked solid. Probable cause being turbo failure again! Car has had both replaced and after being parked for virtually three weeks yet again threw up dis error but no management light. Within few hundred yards of starting, there was a soft pop and the engine lost a bank of cylinders. Guessing it blew a pipe off somewhere. The RAC came out, played about and couldn't turn engine and starter just clicked. Bit more checking showed fuseable link has blown to starter.
Conversation with land rover dealer around heathrow area had RAC man out with computer, but only recorded fault is positive boost pressure error
So it looks like 9 grand engine replacement plus a turbo or two. About half the value of the car, having had it from new and properly looked after, am really at a loss as what to do with it given the problems it has suffered in its lifetime. Most of which seem to repeat and repeat. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

If you have already had your turbo/s replaced previously, then my guess is that the last time they went that they sucked some of the fins into the engine and whoever replaced your turbo/s hasn't picked up on this and has cut a few corners hence why your engine is now fooked. I'd throw it back at the people that replaced your turbo/s and ask them a few questions. Hopefully it was a main dealer that carried out the work previously, you might have half a chance in them footing the repair bill. Shocked

^^^ Agreed, with that sort of mileage, I'd say a previous poor quality repair was to blame for it going so soon after. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

if the work was done by LR (at £9k, it sounds like it) then I would be having a word with Liam@landrovercustomerservices send him a PM, he'll listen to your case properly and help you get a satisfactory response.

Its not unheard of for LR to provide a free replacement engine and fitted Whistle Bodsys Brake Bible

you're right, I did misunderstand, I thought it had been replaced before.
However, I would still talk to Liam.

My D3 had 100k, same year (07) and engine crashed when the timing belt tensioner broke. Discussion with the exec office at LR ended in them replacing the engine FOC. I'm now on 112k and all OK.

Had a mix of LR and Indi service history, but all to schedule so that should not affect your claim. Bodsys Brake Bible

Engine is original, the turbos were replaced by dealer at 8 months and two years by lr dealer. The error code and limp mode only appear when car has been parked up for long period. Am fairly sure it's a lung full of fuel as there were no engine failing noises but never say never. Big Cry will get injectors or heater plugs out of it at some point to have a look. LR did step up to plate to replace diff when it went out of warrentee but don't for one min think they will touch this. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

I wouldn't touch it, i would let L/R deal with it and let the diagnose the problem, i'd be very surprised if the turbo's are knacked though.

I'd be surprised if Land Rover ignored your situation. At only 49,000 miles that's well behind the warranty mileage of 60,000 but I guess you're over the 3 years. I should think they would make a contribution of some kind (at least) as you'd still have significant rights under the Sale of Goods act which looks at a vehicles service life of at least 6 years.

For a TDV8 to have needed two sets of Turbochargers within such a low mileage is pretty bad and for the engine to failure I'd have thought JLR would want to investigate the cause rather closely.
