Cycle rack

Hi there,

I am looking for a solution to carry a few bikes on the back of my 2005 RRS.

What have you got and what was the cost?

Cheers in advance. Thumbs Up

You'll need a tow bar, bought mine off ebay for just over £100 if i recall and a read through the link below.
I bought a 3 bike rack and think that was around £130 in Halfords.

Well, just woken up Yawn to find this thread Cool (thanks Ady Whistle )
As said by Nik, the best solution would be to get a tow bar, it really is a lot safer than strapping them on the back with the other racks.

Tow bar - around £100 if you keep your eyes peeled.

Depending on your budget you can spend between £100-500 on a rack. Some also allow you to access the boot too if you have one that has the ability to move from the car. (mine does)
I carry some pretty pricey carbon bikes on the back of mine, so have got a near top of the range Thule which is very well made, but again as Nik points out you can get ones for lower money.
I have this one and got if for £295 from Tesco Direct.

Here's a picture of mine with my mates Thule 4 bike rack on as we picked up the last member of the team and headed off to Wales last year.
He has this one with the 4th bike add on bracket.

Beancounter_74 & Nik, thanks for the replies.

So I need to get one of those removable tow bars (Ebay link) .?

And then get a tow bar bike rack.? Like the one you mentioned or like this ?

What about the electrics for the tow bar lights ..?

Cheers

Tow Bar - Yes, thats the one. You're probably best sticking up a 'wanted' ad on here though as there was one yesterday funnily enough, went for £90 I believe. Thumbs Up

Rack - Again that looks fine. The only thing I will say is do you only intend to carry 2 ? I bought a 3 Bike rack because we have 3 bikes in the family - sounds ideal I hear you say Laughing ..............but I now wish I'd got a 4 Bike rack as the times we've wanted to take an extra bike (sons friend etc0....its a pain.

Re the electrics, it's worth checking first of all to see if you car has them. It could well be they were fitted, but the previous owner sold the tow bar before you got it (or the garage took it out Whistle )

If you have nothing there (behind the rear bumper), you should be able to buy a plug and play set for around the £100 mark, or again, see if anyone has a set on here Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I will try a wanted add first.

I see your point about the amount of bikes on the rack, dont need the set up till June (for London 2 Brighton) so will set up some searches on fleabay and see what comes up.

Will have to have a look underneath for the electrics then, doubt they will be there thou.

All these costs can mount up Sad ... ha-ha

Cheers for the info buddy Thumbs Up

Sorry, should have added, if you do add the electrics, you 'might' have to get them enabled on the cars system, a 2 min job I believe - I'm sure someone a bit more technical than me will comment on this point though Thumbs Up

Off Topic
L2B is an OK ride, just try and set off as early as you can otherwise it's hell trying to get out of London.
