HELP: Transmission fault messages?

Hi all,

I had a small gearbox oil leak from a seal, which has now been replaced. Whilst they were at it, they also replaced the gearbox oil, of course.

However, an error message now appears on the dash - three, actually! These read in the following order, when you start the car:

TRANSMISSION RANGE CHANGE NOT AVAILABLE

SYSTEM FAULT SPECIAL PROGRAMS NOT AVAILABLE

SPECIAL PROGRAMS OFF

The garage thought this might be the contacts on the ECU that needed cleaning (I was doubtful as there were no error messages prior to the leak), they tried this and apparently it worked but when I went to pick the car up the above error messages appeared.

They are a Land Rover specialist but I am starting to loose faith, I think they may be more suited to Defender's and early Disco's than the latest models. The car is a 2005 4.4 V8 RRS.

Anyone got any ideas what could be causing these messages and what the fix is?

Really??? Is that a known cause for those particular error messages, or for all sorts of random error messages? - Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE G4 Challenge vehicle (FOR SALE)

Thanks Ady, will check!

Do the brake lights cause those specific fault codes? Who is it any random error

Maybe they disturbed or damaged the wiring to the range change motor or the transfer box. Have you had a look?

Ah yes - the stop light switch is another common problem. Hopefully a new one will fix your issue Thumbs Up Want to do a DIY job on your car? Check out the definitive 'how to' thread in the technical section Thumbs Up

The specialist wouldn't be the one where the old mini garage was in maidenhead would it?
If it is then yes they do seem to have loads of old school stuff there...guess I will have to take my RR elsewhere after reading this!

Finally looks like solved the problem. Firstly changed all back light bulbs to new and good quality, then cleaned the brake pedal switch but these two did no change even after transfer box module reflash, then gearbox module reflash and engine ecu reflash because I had engine light sometimes. The last was transfer box solenoid connection chech and voila Thumbs Up It looked very nice from outside even from the inside, but reconnection helped.

I did absolute possition sensor reset and transer box calibration programs with no errors so didn't think that any components was fault.

Drove the car in all programs in high and low ranges and in all suspension heights for almost 2kms in closed parking place with no fault codes.

I can say it solved
