The OP mentioned the state of the car. That's why it's being discussed. The kid's hurt - that isn't going to change just because we write something on here... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Obviously I hope the boy makes a full recovery

Yes they are fair points. I'm quite sensitive when it comes to my kids, (and maybe my post wrongly reflected that), and yes, safety was a major factor when choosing a RRS.
When a brand new VW Polo drove into our old XC90 it came off substantially worse, depsite VW's safety claims... Bigger may not always be better but I'm sure in this case it's safer.
Makes you wonder what the outcome would have been had it been a Polo versus the train...

Putting an RRS or any other vehicle in a position where it could be hit by a train must be the must be the irresponsible action anyone could take. The driver deserves to loose his or her licence to drive.

Not to start a fight - but i do have to say, we dont wish anyone harm (i certainly dont and wouldnt wish it on anyone) - i dont and wouldnt comment on the case either and condemn anyone as i dont know the details, which we all make mistakes (although i thought this was the one the car may have been shunted onto the track by another) - but i hate this think of the children type almost fake "we must say xxx" society we are creating...where by we must have some sort of nany protection or be quick to condemn and/or quicker to apologise. We are too quick to assign guilt and too quick to try and make the world needlessly safer or assume the world can be safe and accidents arent a fact of life.

Recklessness or intent is very different to an accident or mistake.

On an aside

Most land rovers are amongst the safest cars to be in real world tests - there was a report done by DFT and its amazing how good land rovers are at protecting the occupants - real world.

I read an article a while back saying how Euro NCAP will rate a smaller car higher than an equivalent, (in safety), larger car, as they 'expect' a larger car to be safer. Hence a supermini can get simlar safety results to a large 4x4 suv type vehicle.
Very misleading if true. I'd be interested to know if anyone can shed any light on that? And if NCAP is 'real world' or just another Euro scam?!
