how are the door locks meant to work

so.. driving along, doors locked

when you stop, what is meant to happen:

1. still in drive, foot on brake: can front passenger open locked door by pulling handle i.e. not pressing unlock first?

2. put into park, foot on brake: can front passenger open locked door by pulling handle i.e. not pressing unlock first?

3. put into park, foot off brake: can front passenger open locked door by pulling handle i.e. not pressing unlock first?

as I think I might have a fault Big Cry ============

Malaysia 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Chawton White

Quote:
The door latches are installed in the rear edge of each door and each engage with a striker on the B or C pillar as appropriate.

Each door latch is a sealed unit that incorporates:

A lock motor.
A superlock motor (all except NAS (north American specification)).
A door ajar switch.

An electrical connector on each door latch provides the interface between the door latch and the CJB (central junction box).

Both front door latches incorporate a mechanical anti slam lock feature.

Separate release cables are connected between the door latch and the interior door handle, and between the door latch and the exterior door handle. In the left front door, a third cable is connected between the door latch and the door lock in the exterior door handle.

The lock and superlock motors control the engagement of the latches with the release cables to lock and unlock the vehicle.
When the vehicle is locked, the lock motors disengage the latches from the exterior release cables. When the vehicle is
superlocked, the superlock motors also disengage the latches from the interior release cables. When the vehicle is unlocked, the CJB (central junction box) reverses the lock and superlock motors, to re-engage the release cables, by changing the polarity of their power and ground connections. To enable the SPE (single point entry) function, the lock motor in the driver door latch is operated by two dedicated connections with the CJB (central junction box) ; the lock motors in the other three doors are all operated by two (other) common connections with the CJB (central junction box) . The superlock motors in all four door latches are all operated by two common connections with the CJB (central junction box) .

All of the interior door handles incorporate a locking button. Pressing the front of the locking button pushes the interior release cable, which causes the door latch to disengage from the exterior release cable. On the rear doors, the button also disengages the interior handle from the interior release cable.

Pulling the front of the locking button out again re-engages the interior door handle with the interior release cable, and also pullson the interior release cable. This causes the door latch to re-engage with the exterior release cable.

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black

How long have you had a RRS Question Simple terms, you drive off, doors lock. You stop doors still stay locked no matter what gear you are in, they don't unlock until you switch off the engine or you press the pad lock button on your drivers door which unlocks all the doors. Thumbs Up Simples Wink

oh if it were simple...

try it.. when you stop (engine still on, doors locked or superlocked) you (driver) can just pull the handle to open the door in one motion. In mine, the passenger can also do it, but it's temperamental! Sometimes seems to let you, sometimes not.

Reason it's a problem is if passenger gives the door lever a good yank/tries to force it (when it's playing up and not opening) I'm concerned it could break.

Sounds like it could be a fault rrsboy. Neutral

On mine, the driver, and all passengers can pull the door handle from inside to release the doors (I assume its a safety feature in the even of a crash Idea )
I believe this can be done in P, and even in D with a foot on the brake pedal. Have not tried it in motion though, but for the reason above, I guess it's the same. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

i will thow mine in just to confuse things further........................

once it is moving it locks, picking someone up from the side of the road is a pain (got to watch out for the cops Laughing ) , you have to unlock via the button on the door before the afore mentioned person yanks the door handle off!

driver and passenger can open the door when stopped even with engine running, rear passengers can not, even with child locks off!

cheers

I don't understand the logic of the back doors not being able to be opened without pressing the main unlock button.

There is a child lock option if you need it. 2009 3.6 TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter agreed

Unlock (drivers only) full unlock either through opening px door or using unlock button when in drivers

Drive off lock automatically (setting)

Whilst in any gear, movement etc (not tried above a speed that said) doors can be opened by using the handle on any door.

Boot cant auto open passed a certain speed

Rear doors open when in gear, often drop people off...check your kid locks maybe.

It could also be a v8 thing, knowing if you get out you might buy the v6 Question Exclamation Mike

I think you have just answered your own question! Probably a belt n braces kind of thing in case you forgot the locks, or if you are giving a drunk mate a lift home and he is about to open the door into the path of a truck!
Cheers
