Auto only licence Q

Does anyone know if I can legally drive one of the new RR sport's auto using an auto only licence, as it has an option to change gear manually?? Classic owner, but soon to be a Sport.

It all comes down to how many pedals the car has. Two pedals and it's an auto so an auto licence is fine. The fact you have flappy paddles or can 'change gear' is irrelevant as the clutch is automated in some form or another.

Hope that helps.

The average driving examiner (cars) does about 35 tests a week of those about 2 or 3 will be in automatics. Call it about 5%. Sometimes they come back to upgrade to manual after a while but given cars these days we don't get many. Thumbs Up

I know one centre that is quite close to a large American company and they get people coming over from the states on two year contracts. They can only use the American licence for a year so eithier have to keep popping home to 'renew/refresh' the restriction or take the UK test. It usually goes ok until you come to a roundabout Shocked Very Happy

They are nearly all automatics and often don't have dual controls. Keeps it all exciting Thumbs Up

Useful to know the EPB trick works with a lot of high end cars as well as the RRS. Makes a change from Corsa's, Fiesta's, Clio's and Fiat 500's though......

So yes rrsboy some of them should be outlawed. Some of the above fail miserably but still just drive off as they still have an international licence Shocked
