Adaptive Cruise Control issue - Help needed

Hi guys,

Am about to purchase a 2006 Range Rover Sport but when test driving it I tried to use the Adaptive Cruise Control function and got a message saying "Not Available" or words to that effect.

Has anyone seen this message before and if so, is it a fault with the system or is it something that I'm doing wrong?

ACC only works if cruise control is engaged. Some RRSs have forward alert too which is engaged via a button next to the lock/unlock buttons above the radio.

Pushing the distance up/down (top left of steering wheel) while neither cruise or forward alert is on shows a message to that effect.

Alternatively, the buttons may be on the steering wheel but ACC not fitted. To tell if it's fitted, look at the front bumper, there should be a grey box above the number plate in the bumper's opening (right hand side) with ACC engraved on it. No box = no ACC.

Thanks for getting back to me Mr Frog.

Just checked a photo that I took of the car and can see the ACC box on top of the bumper so I guess the system is installed and it's more to do with what I'm doing wrong.. Doh! Rolling Eyes

Will give it another go when I pick her up on Friday.

Thanks.

I have ACC but not forward alert and if I increase or decrease the distance with cruise off, I get a message to the effect or something not being available, can't remember the exact message through Confused

Just checked on my way home, cruise control off, press the distance button (top left of steering wheel) and the display said "Forward alert off", which makes sense since I don't have fwd alert, but have ACC for cruise.

Thanks.

Right, since i haven't actually collected the car yet. Can somebody please explain what 'Forward Alert' does and also let me know if the ACC actually slows the car down if the vehicle in front decreases it's speed even if there is no foward alert?

Hope that makes sense.

Sorry, I'm new to the world off Range Rovers. Rolling Eyes 2006 Range Rover Sport HSE 4.4

Just trying to understand...
The radar sensor mounted in the front bumper is the difference between CC and ACC. How can you have ACC with no forward alert? In that case you just have cruise control. How do you have ACC then? Confused

Why do you test with the cruise control off? Even if you have forward alert its not going to show simply because you have cruise control off! Surprised Malaysia Boleh!

I would suggest you read the manual, then try what your going to on a nice empty road, not wanting to sound harsh but your going to end up up the arse of a truck wondering why the car didn't stop, warn you or made you a brew........

Forward alert tells you on the screen and bongs that driver intervention is needed nowt to do with cc or acc

Acc will maintain a constant speed, and slow you down and speed you up, you can change the distance of the acc If you took some fog and put it in a jar, would it be missed.

Many thanks for suggesting to read the manual.I know exactly how ACC works, thank you! Wink

My question was:
1. if you do not have forward alert then how can you have ACC?
2. how to test ACC if the cruise control is off? Malaysia Boleh!

Ok, I can tell you clearly understand how it works. Whistle

1. Forward alert is independent of cc, if you haven't got it then don't worry about it.(although as far as I know it's part of the acc)
2. Acc can only work with cruise control, the hint is in the name..... If you took some fog and put it in a jar, would it be missed.

Yes, nothing to worry.

To be clearer, you will not have forward alert if you do not have ACC, although forward alert can work independently of ACC. Vehicles with CC but without ACC will not have forward alert.

ACC does not work with CC. It is a different set up altogether. Whistle Malaysia Boleh!

Confused !!!

I have cruise control and ACC (Active Cruise Control). With cruise on, ACC will automatically slow or accelerate depending on traffic up ahead and the safe distance you want to have can be altered in four steps with the button on the steering wheel. On my MY 2005, as far I as I can tell, I can't disengage ACC when cruise is on, I can alter distance up/down but not turn it off altogether.

Some cars optionally have forward alert which uses the same hardware (ACC box in bumper) to actively monitor things ahead of you independently of cruise control (e.g. with cruise control off). This can be switched on/off via a switch on dashboard near the lock/unlock buttons above the radio.

Turned on, you can set a distance and if someone for example steps on the road ahead of you, or pulls out, it will warn you. Likewise, if you're headed towards a stationary car, it will warn you.

I don't have this feature, no button on dash to turn it on, so changing the distance setting on the steering with cruise turned off warns me that forward alert is not enabled on my car.

Hope this makes sense

Think bobby meant forward alert Smile If you took some fog and put it in a jar, would it be missed.

Wow, this really has turned into a right debate..

If the system is installed but has a fault, is it a main dealer job or are there other places that may be able to resolve the matter? 2006 Range Rover Sport HSE 4.4
