RRS Virgin TDV6 v TDV8

Hi Guys

I am looking at buying my 1st RRS.

I am tempted towards TDV8 for obvious reasons, but are there any reasons not to, ie reliability. I don't do many miles so I am not worried about fuel consumption.

Thanks in advance.

Great question Miles, I love the TDV8 in terms of grunt, smoothness and it sounds superb, however, I do personally have some concerns re the reliability based on my own experience. That said it will be very interesting to see others comment on your post and express their views. TDV8 is great when it works though!!

Also not sure of your budget / age of car you are thinking about but if you don't do huge mileage, the 4.4V8 petrol I had a couple of years back was actually a great car and not as severe as the supercharged version in terms of economy etc.

If fuel not an issue then go S/C and live it up properly! Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Had my TDV8 from new and it's history is not good, but compared to V6 there is no contest. Pick a car with full history but ask for service record including guarantee work before parting with your cash! 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

Has to be the TDV8
I've not had one problem,I purchased a LR warranty the 1st year of ownership for £895, wish I hadn't, didn't bother the 2nd year and I've not had one problem in 2 years apart from the usual front suspension knocking. Driving it to Farnells(Leeds) tomorrow and picking up my new one(new to me 2010) TDV8. It took me ages to find a nice 2010 TDV8 but i wouldn't have any other engine, obviously I hope that the 4.4 is out for the next time I change Thumbs Up

V8

Not driven the V6 other than a short test drive.

What I can say us that my V8 is now 23,000 miles old and is just getting better and better. It feels smoother and sounds much quieter than 10,000 miles ago. Am pleased with my decision. Graham

the diesel V6 has been getting progressively closer and closer to the diesel V8.. the 2.7 was a bit of a joke, the first 3.0 was good but still a way away, the SDV6 is an excellent motor complimented with a great gearbox.

but I still prefer the 3.6 TDV8

and I wish they'd get their act together and put the 4.4 TDV8 into the new Sport!
