United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Siberian Silver

Hi all,

I'm debating what snowies to put on my 5.0 SC - will be spending a few months between Tignes and Mayrhofen this Winter. I'm inclined to go for 255/20/50 but was wondering if I can stretch these onto the 5 spoke 5.0 supercharged alloys?

I suppose what I'm really asking is do I really need to go down from 275 to 255 on a 4wd vehicle? I've always
downsized before on normal 2wd cars but would I really notice on a range rover where I'll be in the alps but not offroad?

Thanks Ben

Don't forget as Ady555 mentioned - if you have any sort of warranty (Land Rover or aftermarket) you'll need to stick to what's recommended by LR.

You may allso find your insurers specify that 'approved' parts must be used and they will want to be notified of any modification - that includes non-standard wheel/tyre combinations; it won't normally/necessarily change the premium.

Need some help about these:

http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?deta...sowigan=Wi

My dealer says its a good tyre and the 275/45/20 would be perfect for my genuine 20" stormer.

What you think? Found some Khumo aswell but had a speedindex W up to 270 km/h.

Is it right that you would need as low speedindex on winter so the rubber is not that hard?? RRS 2006 2.7 HSE

A winter tyre should be softer compared to an all season for any given speed rating, not sure if the softness changes with the rating itself.
I guess nobody would want to drive at 270km/h on snow/wet/icy roads, but your insurance company might insist that you have to have correctly rated tyres for the car Confused

Euro Tyfoon Winter - any good?

Has anyone got any experience of these tyres, Euro Tyfoon Snow? I can't find any useful information on the internet, they appear to be proper Winter tyres as they're marked with the snowflake in the mountain?

Thanks Ben

The speed rating is just the speed at which the tyre will carry its maximum load and is determined by a test procedure. Insurance companies might get silly about it, but it would be an interesting argument for them to say that a tyre rated at a higher load but lower speed is worse than one that carried less but at a higher speed. Especially if the lower speed rating is nearly twice the national motorway speed limit.

Bear in mind that the speed and load ratings aren't legal requirements, just recommendations from the vehicle manufacturer. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Another thing i love about Land Rover's choice of the new 20" Pirellis is that they are M&S rated - Yay

Obviously you could get more hard core snow tyres - but M&S is a massive improvement and probably able to meet most peoples needs Mike
