Car getting a Mega Flush tomorrow

After lots of discussions with my local dealer plus the Gearbox centre I've finally booked her in to have a mega flush

Managed to pursuade my dealer to match the ebay price of £20 per litre for LR approved Transmission Oil (down from £27!)and the gearbox guys are charging £120+VAT to perform the flush.

Here's hoping this time tomorrow I'll have a perfectly smooth and "fluctuating rev" free motor.... Rolling Eyes RRS gone

Fully recommend flushing your box Wink
It makes a hell of a difference and highly recommended if your reflashing your ecu and putting more strain on the gearbox.

This maybe a silly question, but when we talk of contamination in the gearbox are we talking metal from the gears themselves? If not how do contaminants enter a sealed unit?

sometimes cooling fliud can contaminate the oil but the main reason for a flush is as per engine oil.... it starts to break down with age/heat and "bits" clog the filter from gearing wear.

LR originally stated it's a 105k mile service option but lately dealers have accepted (when quized) that 60k is a truer reflection of a suitable mileage...plus LR's method of dropping the oil, then refilling, driving about a bit, dropping the oil again and re-filling will swap 50% of the old transmission oil at best... find a specialist who has a mega flush machine which swaps 99% Thumbs Up RRS gone

Hi AWD man
Did they remove bottom of box and replace what I believe to be a filter??
Or suck out old oil and replace??

Thanks as was thinking of changing oil myself.

Hi panda

They didn't feel a filter change was necessary due to the nature of the mega flush system but if you are dropping the oil as per LR recommend then id replace the pan/filter yes RRS gone

Why did you get round doing this? Asked my dealer and was qouted that it is prescribed only TDV6 (pre eight speed) models at 140.000 km, no info on TDV8 Question
Price wise they offered to do the job for £300 all in Shocked

I was getting lumpy change downs, erratic gear selections ( unnecessary gear downshifts ) and what I can only describe as over revving on lower gears with no real torque surge till you put your foot down harder.

Official LR maintenance sheets say lifetime or over 100k but a few dealerships are now admitting benefits to a flush round about 60k

Mercs are terrible apparently RRS gone
