Replica wheels are dangerous...... FACT!!!

I think what i need to make clear in this thread is that as the title sugggests.....
replica wheels are a dangerous thing!!

We have had a customer this week who's vehicle has been involved in an accident due to the fact that the replica wheels he has on his vehicle were of very poor quality and literally crumbled under the weight of his RRS.

This is not by any means an isolated incident either.

My Advice is to stay well clear of any replica wheels in any form it really is not worth it in any way shape or form!!!

Always Always Always buy genuine wheels!!!!

Martin

Martin, you have posted it in the wrong section Embarassed But you are right, why risk cheap wheels just because they look good until the worst happends, why risk life and limb to you and other road users. Shocked

Completely agree...............what a stupid thing to do to save a few quid.

If you can't afford genuine, tough. keep the standard (safe wheels).

To get this back on track after it was so rudely derailed by x5pea Mr. Green

I struggle to see why people would go down the replica route. Confused
I've never been a fan of 'homage' stuff, be it watches, clothing etc.....but at worst, with a fake watch, you look a bit of a chav, with a fake set of wheels, you could end up with yours/loved ones lives being taken away.

I drive with my wife/son in my car, and their safety means a far more to me than a 'set of nice wheels'.

Hopefully people will start to take notice Martin Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

i couldnt agree more!

very very serious issue.

especially with more and more being made.

we as a company will be taking replica wheels of ours very very seriously and it will result in prosecution.

as was said in the Cheap China thread recently just because they are cheap doesn't mean they are any less quality

But on the other hand just because they are more expensive doesn't mean they are any better either (obviously there are non copy expensive wheels that cost more due to materials) but expensive wheels cost more as someone has put their name on them, be the LR, Kahn or Overfinch etc etc

if a replica wheel is well made and just so happens to be made in the same design of the original apart from a LR stamp on the inside, using quality parts and load rating are the same there should be no worry,

But the issue is, how do you tell, without a science lab, which is a good or bad replica

Personally I wouldn't buy a replica wheel due to that reason, but i also wouldn't buy a Brand wheel as i don't like the idea of paying £2000 more for a "name"

Martin, are there certain manufacturers who make poor quality replicas or is this the case for most after-market wheels?

Companies like HRE through to TSW all sell aftermarket wheels so it would be interesting to see how these fair up against manufacturer wheels. LCFC. Receiver of threatening letters from Overfinch.

I guess we're talking about the firms that knock out 'lookey likey' wheels sag.
I would say respected wheel makers, like TSW, OZ etc are not included in this as they are producing their own designs. Smile ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Exactly.........fake Kahns or Overfinchs steer clear of.

If you want to stick Oz wheels on your Saxo then it's probably safe enough Laughing
