Not strictly true. The Contis were designed with shallower shoulder block grooves from the outset. I would assume this was to give better shoulder control when cornering. The shoulders then get worn smooth before the rest of the tread. But as the legal requirement is for the central 75% of the tread to be a minimum of 1.6mm this isn't an issue. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
