2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Black Smoke

I have an akmost brand new Range Rover Sport tdv6 HSE 06 plate and uk supplied.
Foolishly i got the engine chipped and the extra power and fuel economy is great. Unfortunately there is a puff of black exhaust smoke every time i put my foot down. It has been back to the place where it got chipped twice already and while the smoke is alot lessits still there when i put my foot down. They are now saying take it back to the dealer but worries about warranty implications now etc. its really gutted me. anyone know of a fix?

mine was an ex demo so 'well run in' so to speak.. when you say loads, is it bellowing out the back!?

If it has had an ECU re-map then it should be undetectable.

If it does go in and has a software update it will overwrite your upgrade. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Got 15k miles on mine (which has been chipped).........and it still chucks out a small cloud of smoke when I hammer it......I wouldn't worry, its in the nature of some diesel engines.

Is it a TurboChips type remap or one of the Tunit plug in dongle type. If it is the latter you should be able to unplug it and run in "standard" tune and see if you get the cloud effect. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

LR can only invalidate the warranty if they can prove a failure (when it occurs) was directly due to the modification. Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

I think you will find that they all do it chipped or not, now you have seen it it is playing on your mind and you will be looking for it even more.

A lot of people just drive their cars and don't 'look' for problems, I am more like you, with my first D3 I would be listening for the engine noise all the time as I knew for a fact that it was louder than most.
