Hi,

I've decided that I'm going to buy a rused ange rover sport 4.2sc as my next car. So I thought I'd pop on here and say hello. Are there any things that I should look out for when I go and look at a few cars?

Cheers,

Paul.

Welcome Paul Thumbs Up

First of, as with all RRS's you need to check for possible suspension faults (HDC errors)

The best way is to select "access mode" height on the suspension, then "normal height", then "off road height".

Doin't be too worried if it takes a while (older cars do) but see if you get any amber lights or warnings... and only the "vehicle raising slowly" warning error is not a major concern...any others like HDC FAULT would worry me.

Check the service history, they are not cheap cars to maintain, and any missed stamps would concern me if other stuff had been "done on the cheap"

Take it for a spin... the 4.2sc should feel more than eager, and if it does not, walk away.

If it's running standard rims (20" V Spokes) then that's fine, if it's got aftermarket 22's on it (they are ALL aftermarket over 20") then check for alloy cracking etc... if you can see a weight rating even better (over 1000kgs) there are some cheap Chinese copies out there which are weaker than ideal Wink RRS gone

Thanks for the info.

I was planning on getting at least a 2007 model from an approved used dealership, so it is covered by the land rover warranty - do you think its worth it, or should I go private and save a few k? Then I could get an aftermarket warranty for around 1k?

I suppose if its land rover approved then you can be sure its been serviced properly?

Cheers,

Paul.

Oh, also can you tell me the service schedule and cost for each service?

Thanks.

If you can swallow the dealership premium then go approved used Thumbs Up

Mine was through an independant trader, and then I bought a 3rd party warranty with Warranty Direct (£600 pa) RRS gone

A 2007 car will be on or just over it's 5 year 75k service which iirc is around the £500 mark

The big one is the 105k service

Service interval is 15k or 12 months Thumbs Up RRS gone

Have you ever claimed on the warranty? Does it cover everything like suspension, engine, Electrics and supercharger etc?

Paul.

WD do a pretty comprehensive package, but the downside is you have to shell out your hard earned 1st..then claim it back with the receipts etc.

The LR extended warranty is more wallet friendly in a claim, but does not cover "wear and tear" items like the WD one.

It's swings and roundabouts RRS gone

Hmmm, I'm thinking warranty direct is the way to go. I've just checked and its 750 for a 4.2s sport. That would leave me with a bit extra for an exhaust and remap!

Paul.

The trick with WD is to haggle (or just be indecisive) they'll drop £100 without hesitation

Wink

PS
remapping the sc doesn't really return many gains... but a nice freeflow exhaust will make it sound Cool RRS gone

LOL Rolling with laughter we had this discussion about prices dropping instantly before

It would be an INSANE MAN who bought a used RRS (of any type) without a warranty of some kind. Thumbs Up ============

Gents, i have the said rrs. Remap gave me an extra 20 bhp and excellent mid range pull. Also had my exhaust done from headers downwards, sport cats included. Sounds the business. Though don't buy one if you count your mileage against fuel bills.

I won't be doing a huge amount of miles, so I'm not too worried about fuel bills. Its going to be a bit more of a weekend car, used for family outings occasionally.
