Front and rear heated screens take ages to work

My 2008 RRS front and rear screens seem to take ages to defrost - is this normal?

The front heated screen takes about 6 minutes to clear and the rear one takes 10 minutes and one element near the base of the rear screen seems to be not working?

Is this normal. I bought it a few months ago and now its cold this is the first time i have needed to use them and just noticed it.

Front screen takes 6 minutes? Not normal in my experience. The front screen has been clearing in less than 2 minutes with -4degC outside. Are you directing air on it too? With the FBH, the air in mine is warm in about a minute and this really helps the front screen defrost. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Agree 6 mins is not normal for me either. Closer to the 1-2 mins on the front and a little longer on the rear.

My previous RRS was slow sometimes. I have a theory that if you are running a high load on an idling engine and the battery is not in tip top condition there might be a power management function that cuts power to the most hungary circuits. Otherwise there is no explanation as to why sometimes it was slow and others it was not.

I reckon your theory is spot on!!!!

If I start my 58 plate RRS on a cold day and immediately switch on the heated front screen, it doesn't work!!

If I wait until a little puff of white smoke from under the front N/S tells me that the diesel engine heater has successfully started up and then switch on the heated front screen, it typically clears the screen in about a minute!

I've had the debate with JLR about battery and alternator performance on both this RRS and my previous one, but they don't go with out theory!!! lol
