Smart Key / Battery Low

Got a message the other day when starting the RRS, saying the battery in the smart key was low. Had a quick look at the key and its not obvious if there is a removable battery or how it should be charged.

Anyone help? Confused

Hello
The key is sealed and the battery is a rechargeable lithium. It charges while in the ignition. Probably worth going for a good run to recharge the battery

Also is possible to replace battery, but you need to buy a new key case as you destroy the old one, to open it. Also the battery is PCB mounted so needs a bit of soldering. Fairly easy, did one of mine about 8 month ago. Not because the battery had gone, just did it to tidy the key, but replaced battery at the same time.
THis is for the older 3 button type key

Shepp, the above is from the 2010 manual, so I would say X5, can just swap in a new battery, no need to destroy the case Wink ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I have opened 1 of my keys to attempt changing the battery.

However I am having trouble removing the battery as it seem to be soldered to the PCB.

How do you remove the battery and install a new one?

James

No personal experience, but a quick search on here, suggests that on the older key fobs, yes, you do have to remove and then re-solder a new battery in to the PCB. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
