2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Bonatti Grey
Nuts

Hi there. Just to introduce myself - new to the forum but been around for a month or so - enjoyed all of the humour, wind ups and info exchange so far! Laughing

Due to take delivery of my RRS TDV6 HSE this week sometime (Bonnati Grey with PTI, Privacy Glass, Logic7 and the obligatory Tasmods). Had a bad experience 18 months ago when someone 'borrowed' the wheels off my M3 when I parked it on the street. Shocked

Obviously don't want the same thing to happen to the RRS when I get it. Does anyone have advice on non-standard/non-OEM locking nuts, along with the name of a supplier?

I've tracked down a company in Ireland (www.performancealloys.com) who are able to supply but they need to know whether the wheel nut diameter (of the head) is 19mm or 21mm. Again, anyone know the answer to this question?

Advice appreciated!

Hmmm..........

I watched in horror as someone at work searched for locking wheel nut removers on ebay.

There are quite a few of this type of thing for less than a tenner, which gives me absolutely no confidence in locking wheel nuts whatsoever (apart from some Wolfrace ones I owned many years ago, where the whole body spun freely).

I know that these things need an air wrench to work, but they are fairly portable, and anyone pinching a set of 20" wheels would probably have a van anyway, so carrying a compressor would be no problem.

I suppose that using an air impact wrench would make lots of noise, but if there's no-one nearby to hear it................... RRS 4.2 S/C. Zermatt. Tints. Stormers. 150+ paint defects, wonkey bonnet, scratches, detached doorseal. suspension faults. To sum it up, a �60k pile of cr4p!

Cheers Bob. Yep - was actually looking for a way to keep the wheels on rather then taking them off! When I lost the M3 wheels, it was actually a case of the thieves having a copy of the standard BMW key. A bit like the M5 crimewave that is currently happening.

There's only so much you can do - agree with you there. Would still like to make it slightly more difficult for anyone who tries. Seeing my M3 on the road, resting on it's discs was not a pleasant sight! Cheeky Censored didn't even do me the courtesy of leaving it on bricks.

You have my deepest sympathy. I'd be devastated if that happened to me (although I'm actually in the reverse situation at the moment........I have the wheels and tyres in the garage, but no car to fit them to yet!).

It'll be interesting to see if anyone comes up with a thief-proof set of locking wheel nuts.

When my wheels got nicked off my BMW it only had about 40 miles on the clock and they had the same thing. Copy of the BMW set (been told that there are 23 different set that BM have

I got a set of key locks when i took the car in for a service i got a call from BM asking where the key lock was for the Wheels I had a proper key for them and they was a BMW part


The same goes for L/R they only have 20 different set out of the Factory and i sure it's not that hard to get your hands on all of them

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

The biggest deterent to stealling 4x4 wheels is the sheer weight of them, these things are huge and very heavy which means it takes Mr Stcky Fingers a lot longer to whizz them. Ask SuperT, he recently changed 4 wheels and suffered the next day for the pleasure of putting 20"ers on 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Tim is absolutely spot on.

I changed 4 19's on my HSE for 4 Stormers after work one night.

Took me over 2 hrs and many, many aches and pains the next few days!

ST, I've got all that to look forward to. I'm going to swap the 20" wheels for the Stormers as soon as I get the car home.

I used the tool kit out of the boot.

I bought a non BMW set of wheel locking nuts for the wife's Z4, they came highly recommended and you can get them from halfords, made my McGards. The set of four cost £18 or so, was worth it. They may do a set to fit.

They are a German make. I am trying to find a web page but not having much luck right now. L319 D4 HSE

Fitted a set of standard wheel locks about 2 weeks ago, and will be looking for a second non-LR set soon.

I wonder though if they won't get so frustrated that they'll start slashing my tires and messing up my rims...hmm

Ah, you've just reminder me to get one of those high lift trolley jack jobbies. My trolley jack won't reach a 4x4 without using blocks of wood (not recommended).

Can anyone recommend a jack that fits? I believe there is a hole in the 4 chassis corners to fit the stud from the jack. I'll need to buy a trolley jack with the same size stud.

I've got the air tools, so that should save a bit of grunting, but those Stormer wheels are heavy. Has anyone compared the weight to the s/c 20 inchers?

Unsprung weight is always a bad thing when it comes to suspension tuning. I'd have thought they'd try to make them lighter as they get bigger (and more "sporty").
