Test drove a 06 rrstdv6....

Morning,

Very new here so hope I am in the right place.

I currently have a BMW 530d m sport which has been my daily drive and dog waggon for two and a half years. It's served me well ( and been the longest I have ever owned a car) but its getting a Bit tired now and time for a change.

We have just changed my girlfriends car to a mini cooper John cooper works so I have a weekend toy. My car is used for my commute in traffic and transporting our two dogs!

So I went to hunters in Southampton yesterday and test drove an 06 place tdv6. Little older than I really want and with 57k and £24k I thought a bit steep but...... I can't help but feel it was lacking a little. It's never going to be as responsive as my 530 and it wasn't a barge but was somewhere in between!

Looks like I need to find me a local tdv8 to have a try in.

Ideally I think I need a 07 plate onwards tdv8, ideally in silver ( had black cars for 8 years now! Budget is circa £28k... ideallya from main dealer for warranty.... Have I any chance??

Cheers.

Colour requirement won't make it easy but you should be able to find something at that age/price. Had a quick look on Pistonheads and they have quite a few in that price area. Mostly not silver though... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks for your reply! I'm not completely set on silver but just think its a little more understated than others... As much as a rrs can be!!!

I looked at piston heads but just worry about not having lr approved car warranty???

The Land Rover website approved used car search system throws up 10 TDV8 at less than £28k, 27 if you go up to £30k, 11 of which are "grey".

It's a good search facility. Worth a look if you haven't already seen it. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

worst possible time to buy a RRS, literally started snowing yesterday Laughing Laughing

07 plate tdv8 books at 28425 retail

tdv6 you looked I'm assuming is an HSE, its a little on the rich side but i suspect the dealers are banking on the white stuff coming and getting a premium for it

retail 22750

all very true but i guess with the doom and gloom around the economy at the moment the number of buyers is depressed as well.?

test drove a Q7 today which i actually liked! the 3.0 V6 was miles better than the 2.7 from yesterday.

went to Guy Salmon in Portsmouth as they had a TDV8 but they were closed!!!!!

I thought about seriously about a TDV8 but bought a TDV6 from a LR Dealer over the phone/web without driving it as I work abroad. Wanted a good 4x4 for my wife, had read articles about the TDV6 being underpowered etc but I have to say it's a great car. Sure it can very occasionally feel a little slow but its a big 4x4. They are a blast I ALWAYS want more, could not believe what they will do off road (Land Rover Experience Day) so the compromise is well worth it. Steve H

I have driven both the TDV6 and TDV8 back to back.

The TDV6 is a great car for around town but if you are planning on driving on motorways or fast dual carriageways, it is under powered and you will wish you had bought a TDV8. The TDV8 is much better (and safer) when over taking. I would highly recommend you drive one as it is a world of difference performance wise to the TDV6.

BTW, tehre are a fair few TDV8s at dealers for £28k to £30k Proud owner of a 2008 TDV8 HSE.....and an Audi A3 2.0T DSG Cab and a Porsche 911 Turbo (Mercedes W208 320 CLK and Mercedes W124 E220 Estate now gone)
