Aussie Speeding Fine - Should I Pay It??

Just received this little beauty Rolling Eyes

Should I pay it or is there nothing they can do?

Presume the 3 points would just be on an Aussie license?

Apparently VA's mug shot is all over the hunter valley from the Jurassic period after he skipped town without paying Whistle

Points only apply to an Aussie licence.. it gives the nerds at the RTA some power trip to think people would take them seriously when driving on foreign licences.. Depends on how often you propose to come back to Oz will determine whether you are a good citizen or not and pay Laughing Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

What's the worst that will happen if I do come back, make me pay the fine, or make me pay a much larger fine?

larger fine (with interest added) possibly, Not sure if they would actually hold you at immigration for speeding fines if unpaid before letting you proceed into the Country..so could cause hassle next time you arrive in terms of clearing immigration (that assumes they can tie you and your passport to your licence which may be a stretch), to be honest i am in wild guessing territory Embarassed

You are in good company in terms of the Lane Cove Tunnel, a mate who moved to Sydney from Marlow managed to get himself a 3 month ban for accumulated points, the final 6 points on doing over 120 KPH through the tunnel as he was late picking up the outlaws who had arrived from the UK on an early morning flight.. he had been in Oz approx 3 months at the time Laughing Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

Check your credit card statement and see if the Hire Company pays it after a while, that may be part of your agreement that you are liable for all fines and speeding tickets etc. If they get collared financially they will automatically load it onto you Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

Extortionate, but less than half the people than in the UK, so revenue generation needs to be on a higher ratio per capita Evil or Very Mad Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

Also the corporate fine is a lot larger than an individuals where the individual does not pay the fine. If the hire company has to pay it, it will be about $1000 and the hire company may take that out of your credit card.

Yep, the rental company will pay it on your behalf on your credit card. They may charge an admin fee which will cost you more. It will be in the small print somewhere. Pay it but don't worry about the points, irrelevant for your UK license.

Just been searching to see what others do in these situations whilst having a cuppa

Seems its a mixed bag of results from what can they do to paying the fines, there seems to be no definative answer to what will happen if you went back to Oz in the future, as they don't share details of fines with the boarder control people.

The only thing i read was a chap got points, moved out there a year later and the points were put on his Oz licence,

It will cost them $$$$$ to chase you for it and you'll only end up paying the $$$ in fines anyway.

But my view from watching Sky Tv "nothing to Declare" program about Oz Customs is if there is anything they can fine, or stop you from entering OZ with they will

I think its down to the small print with Hertz and if your going to opt to pay or Hertz are, they say sending a letter pleading the dumb tourist route can get some of the fines dropped
