Cancelling will allow transactions still to be processed.

If you have a continous payment on card when it is renewed the transactions still follow on the new card issued.

If your card is stolen then payments will not be proccessed Now driving a rather smart looking Van

$371 this one!

I had one in March from a hire car, it took 2 1/2 months to arrive at home in the UK. $160 for 8km/h over the limit and 1 point. Paying it was simple and made it pretty obvious that it's purely a revenue gathering exercise. Enter ticket number, enter credit card number, click OK, job done. Didn't ask for any other details.

It'll no doubt appear as a point if & when we swap our UK licences for Oz ones Rolling Eyes

It's no wonder the accident rate is so bad here when the speed limits are so ridiculously low. Ex-G4 Challenge RRS HSE, BV55 YZE. Subtle shade of orange ! Now registered YZE481 G4RRS in Melbourne.

There is a difference betweeen reporting stolen and cancelling it.

If it is stolen then a brand new card and number is issued on a completley different account set up by the same provider, if it is cancelled then it can still be used by people who have the details, it sounds mad and it is, but this is the case.

On the credit card...you are all wrong.

When you hire a car - the hire company actually charges you card for the full amount you agree to (something in the thousands) but they dont take the money - they put a hold on it...which is only removed a few months later...the point, if they get fines, bills or notice damage etc...they just enact the part of the hold - card cancelled or not!

Equally this should have been written or explained, its been common practice for years! Mike

JF, by the time you would have sorted out all the "advice" on here the fine would have doubled and potentially the damage
to your credit card.. Might be quicker to pay the Censored before the Hire Company does and have done with it..

Also remember, you can be extradited for basically no reason nowadays Laughing oh sorry that is to the US for not committing any crimes there Evil or Very Mad Another Pommie Bar Steward down under
