Getting Voice Control to Work!

Hi All,
I am a newbie to this forum and the complete opposite of a Petrolhead (I know very little about cars) but I'm bright enough to have bought a 2007 RRS!
Like most guys, I want to know how everything works and make her do all the clever things she is supposed to do and I THINK I have got to grips with all the gadgets, except for the wretched Voice Control stuff!
I have even read the manual (which hurt my pride) several times, I am a "softy southerner" so speak without an accent and can project my voice quite well, but no matter what volume I speak, no matter how I pronounce the words or what system I try to access, I cannot get Charlie (my car) to understand a word!
My conclusion is that she is either broken or, more likely, I am doing (saying) something fundamentally wrong. I have tried a couple of local dealers for help but they were less than encouraging.
Can any of you clever, kind people make any (anatomically possible) suggestions please? Do any of you live in Kent and would be willing to help me unlock this toy?
Other posters are right - there is nothing to stop me reaching over a few inches and doing everything manually, but if you've got the gadget, you have to play, don't you???

Welcome - simply put 'don't bother' the system on the RRS pre 2008 is utter rubbish and it's far quicker doing everything manually. Play with it for a while and you'll soon get bored. If you have kids they'll laugh themselves silly for the amount of times the voice goes 'Sorry!' 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Mine works fine, sometimes my accent confuses it but otherwise it's ok, i had a real problem with it to start.

Pull button for voice activation>Beep>Phone Dial Number>Beep, Number Please>Say Number>Number is repeated, Continue?>If correct say DIAL, if not then edit/delete.

Other stuff simply is speaking a logical command, i.e - cd track 2

Probably not very helpful but I could never get the voice control to work very well on my disco, all I ever got was "sorry". Funny thing was my mate with a thick scotish accent could get it to do everything. You do, sort of, get the hang of it if you keep trying. I am pleased to say that the voice on my new sport is excellent and actually works as it should, it also sounds like a different woman, perhaps this one likes me better! 12MY RRS Orkney Grey HSE Lux

I use mine - only problem is i dont know all the commands and there in lies the problem.

Whether it has or doesnt have some features i dont know im sure you cant select the mode of Audio - but Display show XX screen is useful, some of the nav stuff is useful.

Why oh Why dont they do a quick reference guide?! Mike

Why do you think all these call centres set up home in Glasgow? It's because we speak English much more clearly than you lot do - especially you Essex boys/girls (if the TV programs are representative of your accent!!!)

I love the fact you have to flick a button to tell it to do something...rather than flicking another button to do it yourself Mr. Green RRS gone

I would hope so!!

(although I've seen plenty of Rab C's in my time)

As an aside, I tried the voice thing on the way home and it all seemed to work OK except I had to say 'one' in a really strange way as the daft bitch thought I was saying 'eight'. I mean 'one' and 'eight' - how stupid would you need to be to confuse them??
