Hard Drive Sat Nav Update

I read a side comment on another thread that one of you had got their Hard Drive based Sat Nav updated at Service.

My 2010MY HSEs in for its second service and wondered whether I should be pestering my Dealer to update my Hard Drive at the same time.

Any dealer out there or anyone know or had experience of this, what was additional fee?

I'm told its done automatically when your car is in for service, Its part of the service schedule Thumbs Up James from LPR might be able to confirm this.

Thanks Ady

Getting something done without asking might be a first.

I'll ask my dealer later and update the thread with what I find out.

Yep they can easily do it --butttt - you've guessed it, there's a high price to be paid.

Apparently Navteq, LR's mapping suppliers require £245.94 for an update licence.

My BMW dealer updated my X6's system for free.

Considering I have a Motorola Xoom tablet which has Google maps with much higher resolution etc that's updated free - this is a bit of a ripoff!!

So are you saying that your dealer hasn't bought the licence to do it Question

As I understand it each car has to have a new licence. Similar to your computer applications.

I will check, but it looks as if NAVTEQ expect £245 a time!

Ive just spoke to my dealer and he has said if there is any updates for the system they plug it in and if its showing an update is required then they update it for you foc, but if you want a different map then you can either go on the navteq website pay for a pin number and download it from your computer or go to your dealer and pay them to do it.

Yes Ady that's partly what I'd heard.

I suspect that many fellow owners would want their system kept up-to-date (certainly within the 3yr warranty) for free; but I don't see many forking out £245 very frequently.

Although I see only you and I have posted on this thread I think it might be worth an email to JaguarLandRover Customer Relations to get an 'official' opinion.

I'll send an email across to JLR and see what response we get.

Ady

Have sent you a PM with copy of email as it would be unfair to broadcast the JLR contact.

I promised to pass on any information I received from JLR: I quote...

"The dealership can carry out software updates free of charge, however, there should be no need to do this unless it is stated in a bulletin or, there is a fault in the current software that can be rectified with newer software versions. This is done with the satellite navigation hard drive tool and diagnostic computer. The diagnostic computer will instruct whether an update is required or available, if it is required, the map data has to be purchased. The dealership can arrange this with Navteq and purchase this on your behalf."

So if they make changes to way it functions or it goes wrong within warranty that'll probably be free.

However if you want to 'update' in order to get the latest maps that'll be the princely sum of £245, thank you - they're taking the **** when you can get a complete NAVTEQ based Sat Nav for less!

Was told by the dealer that it would be £95 to update your hard drive on the sat-nav. And that it only has to be done every 3 years. The car will tell you when its in for a service. That was Guy Salmon in Thames Ditton. mind you he was trying to sell me a sport at the time so could be bull ! !
