Moving to Melbourne

Hi chaps

Well, our visas were granted this week so we'll be moving over to Melbourne in October Cool

The G4 is coming with us, so the next 3 months are seeing a comprehensive rebuild of all the knackered bits and a full service of all the running gear prior to it going into a container in October / November of this year. I'm also having all the wiring sorted to get the roofrack lights operational Very Happy

Looking like we''ll be moving somewhere between Braeside (where SWMBO's job's located) and Brighton, basically somewhere along the Nepean highway. Hopefully get to meet a few of you local rrsport people once we settle in and I find a job Thumbs Up

Cheers

Cheers chaps

As if the RRS isn't bright enough, we're also bringing SWMBO's bright yellow Spitfire 1500. I've spent the last 3 years rebuilding it from a bare chassis so I'm Censored if we're leaving it behind! Should be a laugh once I get the compliance checks sorted for it.

So, what spares do I need to bring with me in the Sport ? I'll be having a new set of ATR's put on before it goes that's for sure, tyres seem to be somewhat of a ripoff over there... Ex-G4 Challenge RRS HSE, BV55 YZE. Subtle shade of orange ! Now registered YZE481 G4RRS in Melbourne.

By bringing the vehicles you have avoided one of the larger rip offs in terms of car prices Thumbs Up I am not sure about the Melbourne area, but around Sydney there are plenty of good LR specialists company, so assume you can avoid the main dealerships

Petrol is cheaper than the UK, but fluctuates nearly every day Shocked a bit of a shock when you come from the UK and the price is reasonably steady on a weekly basis Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

That's the main reason for bringing it to be honest, over here it's worth £ Censored all, at least over there it actually has a decent value. For what I'd lose on selling it I can pretty much ship and pay the duty. Add on all the compliance & road worthiness checks, engineers reports, uncle tom cobley an all checks and overall I'll not be that far out of pocket.

I'm having to get the LPG system removed though, as VicRoads have told me (along with several members of AULRO) that it'll never meet compliance over there, so as long as petrol stays reasonable I should be OK ! Doubt I'll be doing anywhere near the 30k miles a year I do here in it though, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue. Ex-G4 Challenge RRS HSE, BV55 YZE. Subtle shade of orange ! Get a LPG kit fitted here - with the Govt subsidy it will not cost much. Also Vic has the cheapest LPG in the country. 07MY RRS TDV6

Certainly a possibility should I need to do a high mileage again. We're hoping it'll become our 2nd car though rather than the main one and used more for touring / exploring. The addition of a long range tank may be more useful than having an LPG tank fitted. Ex-G4 Challenge RRS HSE, BV55 YZE. Subtle shade of orange ! Now registered YZE481 G4RRS in Melbourne.

That's my neck of the woods, I'm just off Nepean Highway in Cheltenham! Will no doubt see you driving the G4 around when you arrive!

Where will you be working Mike? I lived in Sandringham a few years ago, loved it.

No idea where I'll be working yet, I'm the one having to find a job when I land. Wife's workplace is in Braeside, hence looking for somewhere between there and the beach. Just us 2 and our dog, so easy / close dog walking is important for us. I'm a water pipelines engineer / project manager, which usually means leaving early in the morning, hence the easy / close dog walking requirement for the mornings (strange how you decide on locations eh) and also the need to be near to the transport links initially, as I've no idea where I'll end up working so need to hedge my bets on that front. Ironically I work for one of the largest construction firms in the UK and we've managed to pick the one state in Aus where they have no operations, so can't transfer.

It's all very exciting, yet very scary at the same time. Ex-G4 Challenge RRS HSE, BV55 YZE. Subtle shade of orange ! Now registered YZE481 G4RRS in Melbourne.
