DPF!

Rant on

How can that f Censored g thing be in anyway ecological?

Today again, almost home, up comes the message "DPF full".

Well, turn around, get on the highway and drive 10 Km keeping the RPMs up to get rid of the message.
Then of course you have to drive back.

More than 20 Km for nothing, very, very ecological Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

The idea is its almost always cleared by normal driving...so extra journeys should not be required Mike

Almost, that's the key word.

luckily I seldom drive in town, but people that do get the message quite often.
You hear plenty of people with the problem.

Doing a bit of highway every week is usually enough to keep the message at bay, but sometimes this does not happen.

In 2 1/2 years I had the message probably 5 or 6 times, still too much in my opinion.

When I did 2 days of quite slow off road (I was with 2 Defenders Wink ) at mid of the second day I had the message and I had to drop the car as we had still half a day of the same and there was no possibility to drive the car fast and long enough to clear the message. Continuing would have meant to risk the car going in protected mode, and probably limp home, and then only the dealer would have been able to clear it.

This, in my opinion, severely impact on the possibility of using the car for extended time off roading( Desert raids and such), where you might not have the possibility to drive fast for long. '08 RRS TDV8

Somewhere along the line the software for the DPF was re written. seems Newer models have much less of a problem
