I'll ignore the comments above Embarassed but if it's a brand new 3.0 I think you will initially be disappointed. The good news is that the engine does loosen up especially after 7-8k miles. I'd done 10k miles before I upgraded to a new TDV8 and initially I noticed very little difference in overall performance, but once the TDV8 was run in it was noticeably quicker.

Plus points for the 3.0 are its much quicker from standstill than the TDV8, will give 5mpg more and is quieter. Negatives are less mid range torque and no V8 sound! Overall it just isn't as refined. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

I echo the previous comments - I went from a MY10 TDV8 to an MY11 TDV6 after Land Rover finally exchanged the TDV8 due to many multiple faults and build issues. They finally agreed the switch about the time the TDV8 went out of production so I had a choice of a TDV6 or keeping the pile of S**T that was the TDV8.

The TDV6 for me is a huge disappointment - the closeness of the engines on paper is very misleading. The TDV8 has a very flat torque curve delivering its 640NM from about 1500 RPM pretty much to the top of the rev range. The TDV6 has a spike that hits 600NM at around 2000 RPM before fading away. This means the TDV6 has poor in gear acceleration from about 50MPH onwards and tends to 'hunt' for gears if you try and overtake on the motorway - it changes down and quickly runs out of puff before trying to change up again. The TDV8, on the other hand, is effortless. The TDV6 does have considerably less turbo lag - half a second I reckon - and if you factor that in to the Land Rover stats the TDV8 is considerably quicker 0-60 highlighting the significant torque advantage.

So it depends upon the sort of driving you do - accelerating between traffic lights or motorway cruising. If I had a choice I would go back to a TDV8 in a second

Has your V6 got the updated performance enhancement that was introduced once the V8 had been discontinued?
I didn't manage to drive the new version of the V8 but compared with my 2.7 my new 3.0 is an absolute flyer both off the mark,50-70 overtaking and high end on the motorway.At the moment still with only 2K miles on the clock its doing ~31mpg on a long motorway run so I'm thrilled to bits with it performance wise. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

Ive just gone from TDv8 to the TDV6 and i must say this....

If youre heavy on the right foot before and speed is your key then yes you will miss it.

However......

If you like to be less aggressive with your driving and just sit back and relax, you will find the car perfect.

Its very smooth and a quiet drive. I must say I do find myself a bit more chilled out with the overtaking....(purely because its embarrassing when you cant keep up damn yee 3 liters....) Smile
