Alternator failure on MY10

So just got back from LJK in hainault and they've scanned the car and have told me that the alternators packed up on my tdv6 MY10,

Quoted me 2 hours labour @ £95 per hour plus vat,
Parts: alternator £387 plus vat

What i wanted to know is, is this a manufacters fault for the alternator to pack up so soon? Cars done 84,000 miles.

Is it worth taking it up with land rover? Or do i bite tounge and just get it fixed by a local indie?

Cheers

Was the car showing any symptoms and/or warning lights/messages? Might seem like a daft question but you didn't mention if this was a visit to the dealer for a routine service or specifically to have a fault investigated.

If it really is dead alternator (and you can handle a spanner) this is a feasible DIY. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Alternator failure is not unusual, sadly. I doubt LR will show much interest in your plight. Assuming you don't have a warranty, get a new alternator and have an indie fit it. Should get it done for no more than LR want just for the alternator! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Car did hesitate to start a week ago, jump started it, and it was fine after,
Just to be on the safe side, i changed the battery to a new one, but still kept flagging up "engine system fault"
Hence why i took it to a specialists to have a look, they scanned it and diagnosed the alternator was too weak.

Will get an indi to do it as i doubt LR will show any interest in my weak alternator Rolling Eyes

What's the best thing to do? Go and get a re-con for £120, or buy a new one?
What's the price on a new alternator LR specific?

Cheers

Rolling Eyes not suprised mate,
You can pick one up here from advance factors for around £200 give and take,
And get someone to do it for you, looks pretty easy enough to change over,
I will be taking on this task over the weekend.
