Official offroad test MY11 Sport

5 sports from 2006 thru to the brand spanking new MY11 head offroad to the notorious Black Spur in Victoria after a month of flooding to test out the capabilities of the new Sport.

The verdict - very impressive.

The new terrain response system managed the muddy geography with aplomb, particularly considering the MY11 was on regular rubber.

Congrats to all the members of the RRSPORT.CO.UK forum for making it such a great trip.

Enjoy!

Just watched video all way through, looked to to be a great day out Thumbs Up

quite deep ruts, deep and narrow ditches don't think the FL2 would have been able to some sections though as the ruts were too deep

Fantastic vid Thumbs Up

When you say the MY11 car was on regular rubber, do you mean normal street tyres(conti/pirelli etc)?

Watching this strengthens my resolve to get another set of 19's with some ATR tyres for a bit of fun...

But if I can get through this kind of stuff with pirelli scorpion zero's i might not need the extra wheels.

Bow down Bow down Bow down Great video.

Shame you had to follow an ugly Toyota Smile

It amazes me where these cars can go.

Nearest I have been to stuck was on very wet soggy grass on a 1in6 ish slope!! Needed to go up but gravity was proving a bit tiresome. Got out though Wink

Otherwise I have been in some silly places Thumbs Up  SDV8 vogue SE.

The stornoway MY11 is Hydronic's car and was on the factory road tyres.

The Black MY06 is Ivery's car (the one without the roof rack), and that was also on Road Tyres - Continental's. They did ok, but you can see how much more the wheels spun vs the different ATR tyres on the other older RRS's..

I'm in Melbourne in a couple of weeks time for a holiday and to drive the Great Ocean Road. Subtle shade of orange ! Now registered YZE481 G4RRS in Melbourne.

You meet some interesting people in the bush !

We came upon a group of trail bike riders stopped at a hole. They greeted us with much laughter and made the bet:
"If you wannabees can get those useless POS Range Rovers through this we'll give you one of our bikes "
This is what they were talking about.

After some deliberation we decided to go on the high side (left part of above photo ). The dilemma was then the two stumps in our way with no way forward from the second stump.

The technique was to proceed on the high side of stump 'A' until the vehicle was straddling stump 'B'
Then a quick flick allowed the vehicle to slide both ends down into the trench and drive away. (see about 15.43 on the video):

Unfortunately we had no way of carrying a trail bike back to base !

Mine was running on OEM Continental Cross Contact UHP's:

I was running at 22psi with DSC 'off'. You'll notice that several times in the video I get stuck with very little wheelspin and then drove away with a little spin running. That was because every time I selected a new TR programme the system selected the DSC and I forgot to turn it off.
I'm only guessing but my theory is that the wheel spin flung the mud out of the tyres and allowed them to 'dig'

The MY11 is mine. It is on 19" 5 V wheels shod with Pirelli Scorpion Zeros. Not a bad effort hey! It does have a rear locking ediff.

The woman you see falling over in the mud is my wife. In her defence she was shod with standard street rubber, her traction control system was playing up and her rear diff refused to lock. Awesome vid Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Was intrigued by the rear-mounted spare wheel carrier of the red car, which I have never seen before on an RRS. Would really like to know how that's attached/welded to the car and where you can buy that down under. SOMETIMES YOU'RE THE BUG AND SOMETIMES YOU'RE THE WINDSHIELD
