Does this mean a dead tyre (dent in the side, just below the rim) ?

I had one in same place but about 4x the size and it was only optional to change NOT recomended so that will definetly be fine Thumbs Up

Rule of thumb is that if you can see any of the tyres internal ribbing then it is dead - this looks ok to me. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

just because its a "rim protector" doesnt mean that if it is damaged then you are able to continue to drive on it. Its designed to protect the alloy which is generally more expensive than the tyre. to damage it this badly could mean hidden damage

personally any significant damage to the sidewall would write it off...end of the day its down to personal choice, but remember your personal choice shouldnt be forced on your passengers
