Looking to buy a RRS - advice please

Hi,

Just joined the forum and hopefully about to join the RRS owners club as I search for my first RRS. Limited by budget I am probably looking at an 2006 / 2007 / 2008 RRS.

Looking for some advice from you knowledgeable folks.

I have been offered a customised RRS by a local company that buys and customises RRS (mainly ex lease cars). The underlying vehicle is 2008 (57 plate) S model with 40k on the clock but with a lot of the HSE spec added as options (Sat Nav, Front+Rear sensors, Cold Climate pack, privacy glass etc). On top of this they will put on 22” alloys with new tyres and also a complete customised leather interior, including the seats, door trim and center console which I have seen and is really nice and makes it stand out a lot from standard RRS. Price is £31k.

Few questions if anyone can help me out:

    1. What do you think to the price of £31k
    2. Drawbacks to it being only an S model even though it has most of the HSE items added on as options?
    3. Wheels – I have read a few posts on this forum that warn against installing 22” wheels due to them causing long term damage to the suspension and also lots of damage / quicker wear on tyres / alloys – is this true?
    4. Would I be better going with a standard dealer bought "approved used" RRS that comes with a select warranty?

Also is there anywhere that I can see a list of the factory specifications listing all the standard items included on each edition S, SE and HSE and the difference between them for each of the years 2006, 2007 and 2008 – I have searched the net and am really struggling to find such a basic list to compare the older models.

Happy to hear any advice / comments - good or bad. Thanks in advance for your help.

engine must be 2.7 as its an S.....

Short answer, overpriced......

My car is newer and is HSE rather than S and I sold for less than that.....albeit with more miles on clock.

S is the lowest of the low, even if it had ALL HSE extras it is still an S with extras and should be priced as such

custom interior could devalue if anything.......depends on the quality, I would personally steer clear..... trying to turn an S into an HSE never works welll.........just like when people try to turn a BMW 318 into an M3

My advice......dont buy anything other than HSE spec

Thanks for the replies guys.

Yes the engine is a 2.7 - probably should of mentioned that Embarassed

The custom interior is fitted to a very high standard - it looks factory fitted and it really stands out from the standard Black, Alpaca, Ivory interiors as it is two tone designed and quilted / stiched.

Any more opinions / advice appreciated.

For that money or slightly more you would get a TDV8 HSE. The interior is a personal thing and could always be added at a later date should you see fit. The wheels are only £1k also so again, you can do it yourself Very Happy

Also bare in mind, TDV6 S were only about £35k when new, and we all know no matter how many extras you put on a car you never ever get their true value back come resale time.

Thankyou all for your advice - its really appreciated.

Any comments on whether fitting 22" wheels causes long term damage to the suspension and also damage / quicker wear on tyres / alloys?

Also is the land rover warranty you get with Approved used cars any good?

harsh!

the point is that you may be able to get a newer car for your cash if you go for a lesser spec.

depends on your priorities. Wink

Mixed reports re the 22's, RRS's have suspension issues regardless.

I've got my 22's sat in the office, hopefully fitting them Wednesday Wink

Very harsh regarding the S spec, it has everything you really need and of course a lot less gadgets to go wrong, look at the problems with active suspension. It's horses for courses - the S is very practical and cheaper to maintain and costs less to buy in the first place. Mine is a 2007 reg and cost £24.5k last year with only 16,000 miles and full LRSH. 22" wheel upgrade £1200
interior leather £1500
All the other "bits" are not going to add value to an S much.

All in all £31k is way overpriced... get an SE or HSE and do the mods yourself if you're that bothered about an autobiography look.

I got my TDV8 on a 57 plate with rear dvd, 22" alloys and all the HSE bits for £32k... (40k on the clock) RRS gone

Thanks everyone for your replies – just what I needed to hear to get things a bit clearer in my head.

I think I am going to continue the search for a HSE.

Muff – your RRS would have been absolutely perfect for me apart from the alpaca interior is not really for me and even if I was to buy it and then customise the interior I would be after a black dashboard and base in the car for what I am after – such a shame but it sounds like you have a buyer for it anyhow.

Also thanks to mobbster for your PM - can't reply as haven't reached the number of posts required to send PMs yet - but it was much appreciated.

Any more opinions on 22” wheels – read in one post that that they invalidate your warranty?

Also looking into warranties – I saw the link posted in a recent post to Warrantywise – any other good warranty providers or sources for extended land rover warranties?

Cheers
