Safwat Cars

I appreciate they're not a LR dealership, but just wondering if anyone has had any dealings with these guys in the past......?

Thumbs Up JT

Yes, I have dealt with Safwat Cars, I bought a 57 Black HSE from them. Overall good service, no complaints at all.

safwat cars

Razz Can not speak more highly of safwat cars, just purchased a 328 Ferrari from them, being in Australia it was very difficult to veiw the car. Glen Gray was extreemly helpful in every detail he went over the call of duty always available and armed with all the information never once did he either not reply or take my call. He is very comfortable to deal with no pressure and wait for it "VERY HONEST" yes I sent my money to them without seeing the car. I had some breif dealing with another dealer who had a similar car for sale and would be kicking myself if I didnt withdraw my interest in that one.

If you are buying a car from these guys you have nothing to worry about, I would come back anytime.

Good luck you will be pleasently surprised. Aus328

Hi Ferrari328,

I was under the impression it was impossible to privately import a car to Aus unless you had owned it yourself for the preceeding 6 months (or something like that) - even then the import taxes were quite high?

Is this correct and how did you get around it?

Neutral Smile Yes you are right although it only applies to vehicles built after 1988. That said you hit the nail on the head with the TAX and duties and luxury car tax. With the AU dollar being strong it can workout if you are lucky enough to deal with a reputable dealer (SAFWAT cars) all jokes aside they were just fantastic. There is also another trick to look out for and that what vehcles are on the bulk supply list. That is vehicles that are already imported in volume don’t ask me how that works I reckon God himself would struggle with that one.

Hope this helps.

P.s after I sent that response I relised that your inquiry was 09? Never mind.

cheers Aus328

Thanks Thumbs Up

Can you explain what you mean by the 'Bulk Supply List' and how this relates to imports...

And also where is this List available?

Many thanks again.

Thumbs Up I don't realy know a lot about that only that there are some cars that are already imported in bulk by the importers and Porscher are one, Ferrari, Astons dont fall into that same catagory?

Sorry I can't be much help there, Confused if you look at infrastructure.com.au there may some information better explaining it.

Did you end up buying your car Question ? Aus328

I looked at bringing my car out with me when I emigrated from the UK some years ago. Import taxes meant it wasn't worth it.

Others on this site have discussed the issue of importing UK cars into Aus, because some used models could be advantageous $ wise. But the existing ownership requirement was always a limiting factor

I'm not looking to buy or import a car right now. But if there is a way to do it efficiently $ wise, then I'd like to know for any future needs Smile

BTW: Infrastructure.com.au doesn't seem to be available.

Neutral You will find that bringing your own car will be a bit different if you are a resident in the UK and have owned the car 12 months or more you may exempt of duty? I'm not 100% sure.

If you look @ www.infrastructure.gov.au it may answer your questions? Personal imports have diferent rules to what they call RAWS imports they refer to late model vehicles.

Cheers Thumbs Up Aus328
