Have you boarded up the house?

BK there is to much glass to board it, a small rain forest would have to be sacrificed Laughing Nope i have taped the windows, london blitz stylie and hopefully most of the real scary stuff will pass further north as predicted .. Thumbs Up So a bit of precautionary taping Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

Thinking of you guys and saying a little word to the big guy upstairs to be gentle with you, even if you did smash us in the cricket.

Understand if you have lots of glass. We had bolt on hurricane boards made after the first one hit us which made life easier the next time. A direct hit from a Cat 2 / 3 was bad enough. I hope this one at least reduces intensity as the first bands cross the coast, sometimes the friction just takes it down that one notch which can make all the difference.

JS i think we are reasonably safe in the Whitsundays, it is at the furthest edge of the cyclone

On another topic, do you want to meet up on the 18th for the drive to the Black Spur Inn ? We will be back and living in Sydney then so could follow each other down Question Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

Sounds like a great idea Zilch.

We were planning on leaving on Thursday afternoon and staying part way down to shorten the trip on the Friday and get down there at a reasonable time to relax a bit before dinner. Does that fit in with your timing? 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6

JS not a problem, let me know your proposed route and plans and we will work around it, not had a holiday for 18 months, so a nice breeze down to Melbourne sounds a great idea Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

Wild scenes of Cyclone Yasi hitting Townsville

Can't believe this video feed from ABC news.

Gotta luv the Aussie sense of humour.

Morning news here in Aus is starting to report now...

Yasi made landfall around Mission Beach between Cairns and Townsville, pretty severe devastation reported in the immediate area but no serious injuries reported thus far. Power out to 70,000+ people but the evac centres have all held up.

Hearing from friends in Cairns now, lots of damage to houses, trees blown over, power lines everywhere, not sure what impact this had on the Great Barrier Reef but could be bad and you can expect banana, sugarcane and other FNQ crop prices to soar as much of the crops have been wiped out apparently.

Morning all and the Whitsundays seems to have been spared, we were on the edge of it, but not so lucky for Tully and Innisfail that seems to have borne the brunt of it..

Will have a look around later today when the wind subsides but i think Airlie Beach has managed to avoid the worse of it. Another Pommie Bar Steward down under
