Malaysia 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Chawton White

I believe this must be Recall Action P017 issued November 2010 - Brake Vacuum Assistance System.

It concerns:
2005-2009 RRS 2.7L TDV6
VIN: LS900002 - LS999983
LS100000 - LS215571

&

2005-2009 Discovery 3 / LR3 2.7L TDV6
VIN: LA000005 - LA513325

Quote:
A concern has been identified on the above vehicles where oil is collecting in the brake booster causing a progressive loss of brake assistance, resulting in hard brake pedal and increased stopping distances for the same pedal effort. Engine oil in the brake master cylinder will lead to a loss of one or both of the foundation brake system hydraulic brake circuits and therefore increased brake pedal travel, increased stopping distances and, in the event of both primary and secondary brake master cylinder seal failure, a total loss of service brakes.

Temporary sticking of the non-return valve leads to a temporary loss of vacuum assistance on the braking system. The hydraulic braking system itself remains fully functional. Once the valve has unstuck the booster vacuum is immediately restored, full braking assistance is available, and the brakes perform normally for the remainder of that drive cycle.

Hi,

Does anybody (Bobby? Bow down ) know how does this differ to the earlier recall problem with the brakes (That mine went in twice for Sad ) If I have had this done does that mean I dont need to worry about this recall?

This was very worrying as coming off the motorway up to a roundabout I lost all brakes and only the lights changing and the car in front moving off stopped me going right into the back of it.......

PS if it is the same pumping the pedal (as opposed to pushing harder) sorts it out Smile

From the AA Website:-

Recall: No. 2 of 5
Recall Ref: R/2009/073
Exact Model: Discovery 3 TDV6 & Range Rover Sport TDV6
Description: POSSIBLE REDUCTION IN BRAKING ASSISTANCE
VIN: SALLAAA136A367110 to SALLAAA149A513325
Build Date: 31 October 2005 to 26 June 2009
Numbers: 56142
Defect: It has been identified that, some vehicles may experience a reduction in braking performance leading to increased stopping distance, due to the possibility of oil entering the brake booster or the brake vacuum pump non-return valve sticking in the closed position after cold start.
Action: All recalled vehicles will be fitted with a modified brake vacuum pipe along with a revised design non-return valve in the secondary port of the vacuum pump.
Launch Date: 28 September 2009 2011 Autobiography Santorini Black

Not sure what recall was done on your vehicle regarding the brakes but the only other related recall was P008, which was done in tandem with P017. Part of the letter to owners..

Quote:
P008 - High Pressure Fuel Pump - Front Bearing Failure – 2007 to 2008 Model Year Vehicles

P017 - Brake Vacuum Assistance System – 2006 – 2009 Model Year Vehicles

Dear Sir/Madam

Land Rover is undertaking two free of charge Safety Recalls (Program Numbers P008 and P017)
to owners of 2006 to 2009 model year Discovery 3/LR3 and Range Rover Sport vehicles.

Thanks Bobby,

Spoke to my Dealer and they confirmed that my car has had this work done. I'm confused why people are getting the letters now as I thought this was over a year old???
