1200 mile Cumbria break - Our RRS performance Report

Well this was our 1st proper journey in the new car (we've now done 1500 miles in all! - trouble free). Thought I'd pull a few observations together for y'all.

MPG from London to the Lakes was c. 27.8, stayed pretty much sub75mph but had a couple of 85mph spirts. The journey home was a bit more aggressive and I had the need to lose a few loonies who were trying to rear end me on the M6, the 'sport' mode did the trick and gave the car far more grunt than the equiv geartronic in the XC90, the journey home averaged 24.9 mpg.

One of the days we were hopping between Keswick and Cockermouth I decided to be as featherlike on the gas as poss, avge speed c 62 and I was achieving c 32mpg.

Car handling is very impressive, cornering is very positive, road noise/trim noise/engine noise were all far quieter than I had expected.

I have arthritis in my spine - however the firm seating , ergonomic armrests and general positioning of kit all leant to me having one of the most comfortable and least tiresome of journeys - each leg was c 5.5 hours- very rare for me to turn up after such a journey feeling refreshed and without the need to stop several times to stretch.

A word of advice re ascending extensive steep hills with tight Italian job bends and stop/start driving (with all the family on-board) - select Low range gear box - else you'll car will smell like brimstone as the normal gearbox will fight hard to get you to the top.

Image - the car does get some envious looks, particularly from X5, XC90 and Freelander drivers- caught a RR Vogue driver looking in through the drivers window whilst the car was in the car park in Keswick.

Cumbria appears to be the Gold paint Landy capital of the world - saw 2 new disco's, about 5 old discos and a couple of Freelanders all coloured Gold - What on earth is that all about? Thud

We've come home with a shopping list for our toy and will be ordering the supercharger front grill and mudflaps , and enquiring about whether the HSE screen/sat nav can be retrofitted.

Also came home and gave her a bl##dy good clean (very mucky under door sills-hence the mud flaps), I use Zymol natural wax products (smells like a cross between Tropicana sun oil and Pino Colada)- these products aren't cheap but they do give a teflon like protection to the paintwork which makes it easier to clean in future and also really brings out the colour of the paint.. Thumbs Up P400e HSE Portofino Blue and Ivory Seats.. it's like a yacht!!

I think that your friendly LR Dealer will tell you that it is not possible to retrofit the LR satnav. I have tried that route myself and recently purchased an Indago satnav and speed camera warning device (it is NOT a detector though) using updates that you download from the Indago website same as a Road angel.
Glad you are enjoying the RRS experience so far. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

BoldlyGo - Glad that you had such a good trip in your RRS.

Mrs S and I were in the lakes few weeks ago and were also delighted with our RRS.

We have the HSE and the satnav is simply awesome - Either using postcode, POI or address.

I averaged somewhere around 26mpg but that included M'way blasts at **mph (That's 70, officer) and alot of up hill and down dale!

A stunning car! Thumbs Up Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad
