DISASTER...

I don't believe it [In my finest Victor Meldrew impression]

30mls range left on trip computer, pull in to fill up and can't get filler cap out of filler neck - STUCK FAST!

Try to turn it and it won't budge. Use a bit more force (Nothing excessive) and the yellow cap comes away from the bit in the filler neck.

Fuel filler pipe is now blocked by a dislodged part of the filler cap!

Looks like Mrs S is going to have to pay our first visit to the local dealer!

DOH! - Anyone else experienced this??? Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Arctic Frost

Sorry to hear about this SuperT.

I think I'll mention this at work, just incase. I haven't heard of anyone else having a failure like this, but it may need a bit more investigation. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

I think there may be a techie bulletin about this......... let me go and look in my stash of them!

Edit.................. sorry superT, it was the fuel filler flap and not the cap that was subject to a tech bulletin. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Try a call to LR Assist - they may have special tool for extracting the stuck bit, I had a similar thing happen on my TD6 RR.............. there was a small plastic holder for the cap (which had a stalk so it looked like a mushroom) so when you removed the cap you could put the stalk into the holder............ except I didn't notice one day that when I put the cap back on after filling up that the holder had stayed on the cap stalk. Next time I had to do a refill it took for ever (100ltr tank on the FFRR) as the pump kept cutting out. After about 30 minutes trying to coax diesel into the tank I gave up and looked inside the fuel filler to see small plastic bit in there wedged across the filler pipe. Paid for fuel and carefully drove 6 miles to the local dealer. The service manager came out to look and went off to the workshop and came back with some very long nosed pliers to attempt to grab the holder....................... just as he touched the plastic with the pliers he managed to move it enough for it to slide down the filler pipe. Soooooooooooooo if you ever buy a Monte Carlo Blue RRTD6SE with navy hide piped with cream and parchment interior that takes forever to refuel that is the cause - I part exchanged it for the Sport a few days later! Oops - what a shame, Super Wink

Funny that you ask though as this exact thing happened on my test drive all those months ago. The red-faced salesman that did it, just closed the filler flap again and started whistling (Whistle) - we went on the test drive and it was fine, but he did say its next stop would be the service dept Wink

That, is what you call a result!

Well, this mini saga draws to a close as the dealer, without question (Or a valid reason) has replaced the fuel cap. Under warranty.

Tune in next week for the next installment (Inevitable)

You will have learned by then to accept the foibles of owning a Land Rover product and just put it down to being the proud owner of a "qualtiy" piece of British enginering Laughing 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
